Aggressive driving has for a long time been a problem on Kenyan roadways, and it seems to only be getting worse
In the latest incident, an angry driver was captured intentionally breaking a vehicle’s side mirror with his bare hands along Waiyaki Way.
A disheartened motorist who recorded and forwarded the short footage to cnyakundi.com on Saturday, 19th March 2022, revealed that he was left surprised when the agitated road user angrily walked up and accused him of hitting and scratching his car.
After an unfruitful exchange of rude words and gestures, the driver of the Mazda Axela [REG NO: KCQ 317T] demanded that they visit a nearby garage so he can be compensated for the accident.
But the other motorist stood his ground and insisted that they wait for traffic police officers so that the dispute could be amicably settled.
This is when the culprit turned combative and decided to take matters into his own hands.
Guided by his skewed logic, he resolved to break a part of the vehicle as a form of supposed “revenge”.
“Please help me get justice. This guy broke my side mirror with his bare hands along Waiyaki Way.
He was saying I scratched his car so we go to the garage and I have it fixed.
I insisted we wait for traffic cops, that’s when he got really aggressive saying I was wasting his time.
He said he had to break something as revenge, and within no time he was breaking my side mirror.
It happened so fast but I was able to record bits of it,” our source writes.
Unfortunately, from such imagery above, it is clear that this problem of rogue motorists will not be going away any time soon.
While it may be difficult in the heat of the moment, considerate road users are advised not to give in to feelings of anger or rage on the road when they encounter such kind of drivers who in most occasions are simply bad at handling stress.
Road rage is essentially an expression of anger, and often has nothing to do with traffic or driving.
So most times, getting home safely is more important than teaching someone a dangerous lesson.
It is such a shame that these incidents continue to prevail despite the presence of heavily funded state agencies like the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA).
We urge relevant legal authorities to make use of the footage provided in this post and take action against the perpetrator.
