The Narok County Government is facing mounting criticism for its failure to pay workers.
The county’s firefighters, who are contracted by the county through Thika-based firm ICT Fire and Rescue, have gone without pay for over three months despite being responsible for protecting the lives and property of the people of Narok in case of fire outbreaks.
According to a source who requested anonymity, the contractor always blames the county for not binding to the contract agreement
This has left the firefighters struggling to make ends meet and forced some to seek alternative means of income, such as washing cars and loitering in the streets of Narok.
The source further alleges that they are threatened with termination if they speak out about their unpaid wages.
The situation has raised serious concerns about the reliability and effectiveness of the county’s fire and rescue services, as well as the integrity of those responsible for ensuring that the contract is honoured.
“It can’t be distinguished whether it’s the county that is fooling the contractor or it’s the contractor fooling its employees,” the source said, calling for a thorough investigation into the matter.
