The family of a former professor at the Moi University is crying foul after the public tertiary institution based in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County, failed to honour their late father’s life insurance terms.
Writing to us on Sunday, 12 June, the wife of the deceased don alleged that a corrupt and greedy cabal led by the Manager of the university’s pensions office has deliberately frustrated all efforts to release the Sh11m pension and Sh6m life insurance payout.
It is now 18 months since her husband died.
She says that the crooked group is working in conjunction with the university’s top bosses who run the school like personal property.
The insurance company approved to cover Moi University employees is reportedly owned by the same pensions office manager who is mercilessly milking even the dead.
Life insurance policy asserts that reparations ought to be discharged immediately after death, but when they ask, the department heads always come up with baseless excuses; like the lack of funds to pay premiums.
She fears that unless relevant authorities make immediate intervention, she may lose all her husband’s money
“Good morning Nyakundi,
Kindly don’t share my identity.
I lost my husband who was a professor at the University; he was worth about 11m pension and insurance of 6m.
The manager decides who is to be paid and how.
To date, the insurance has not been paid 18 months later.
And they pay the pension at 71k per month.
They are actually not willing to share with the bereaved family their policy.
They run it as if it is a personal enterprise.
We are aware of games going on in the office, but it is impossible to expose them because they eat with the University bosses.
Life insurance policy should pay immediately after death, but the story they have is due to a lack of funds to pay premiums.
We may lose the money.
This is daytime robbery because the manager has shares in the insurance company and is still enticing members to pay for the life insurance policy.
How can you help?
They are actually robbing the dead members and their families,” the source writes.
