Hardly a week after we highlighted the plight of their counterparts at Equatorial Nuts Processors, academic staff and casual workers at Pioneer Group of Schools owned by billionaire Peter Munga are up in arms over a prolonged delay in the disbursement of their salaries.

Speaking to us in anonymity, disgruntled and demoralized employees at the Maragua-based institution have disclosed that despite raking in millions of shillings every month from thousands of students, the administration has failed to timely honour their pay.

Recently, the school has only been releasing their dues in short instalments, which is contrary to the agreed terms and conditions of the job.

“Hi, Nyakundi,

Thanks for helping with Equitorial Nuts.

Now ask him to pay teachers and workers at Pioneer Schools.

He is literally not paying on time and pays in instalments yet the school charges Sh150k per month.

He has 2,500 students in the 3 schools so he takes home over 750m per term yet he cannot pay workers,” a disappointed staff member wrote.

On Tuesday, May 26, this blog exclusively reported how personnel at Equatorial Nuts Processors – also owned by Peter Munga – had gone for close to three months without a single penny being wired to their accounts.

The workers expressed deep frustrations that as they continue to suffer under the current high cost of living, the former chair of Equity Bank Group has been relentlessly supporting ODM Party leader Raila Odinga’s 2022 presidential bid.

They feared that their dues could be funding a failed campaign project.

But three days after we published the story, the employees were (almost miraculously) fully paid.

We hope this will be the same case for the oppressed teachers at Pioneer Group of Schools.
