Maranda High School is asking parents to pay Sh5000 per student in 2022, for the damage caused by a fire that razed a dormitory in the school.
By now, most Kenyans know that we don’t have a country. Corruption has been normalized and investigative journalism shunned since most of the authorities tasked with apprehending criminals have failed.
All EACC does is to take more bribes from people that have been exposed and then, the courts are compromised and nothing happens.
We don’t have a country.
Back to Maranda, according to WhatsAPP messages seen by cnyakundi.com, parents are complaining about the high figure.
“Hello parents,5000sh is a lot for construction of roof only? And they want us to go back again? Not really,” a parent wrote.
Another replied, “We paid school fees last term and our boys were at home. Let them use the remaining fees balance my opinion. 5000 by 2000 boys. That’s 10M! As a parent I am willing to pay but that’s too high”.
The restless parents appeared confused about the next course of action. Grappling with how to defend themselves against the school’s extortionist ways.
“Can I ask, who’ll be the voice of the parents in this issue? who’ll fight for us zealously? Lest it just becomes one of those conversations on this wall”.
A contractor in the group shared their views, showcasing how the demanded SH10 million is a racket.
“Surely, that roof construction can’t even finish 3m, I’m a contractor. Parents, the Sh2500 we paid last added up to around Sh6.5million while the damage repair could not hit even Sh2million. Here again, they want us to pay 13.3million for what cannot cost Sh2million. Quite expensive,” the contractor weighed in.
Another stated, ‘This Maranda issue is now becoming worse let them use term two school fees for that construction. And they were not eating too. So school fees plus money for food. It’s even more than 5k”.
“I feel they should be very transparent with the bill of quantities of the repairs. As in give a detailed breakdown of the intended repairs. Hapa ndio Kenya imetufikisha”.
