Details surrounding the distribution of former President Daniel arap Moi’s vast wealth continue to dominate conversations on social media.
Apart from exposing some hidden particulars of his multi-billion empire, the leaked court documents, which include his official Will, have also brought to light a number of key elements concerning his illness and subsequent demise.
According to a report published by an accredited local daily, information from a death certificate of the late former president showed that he succumbed to recurrent pneumonia.
The medical note specifically cites “asystole due to septic shock due to candid and klebsiella septicaemia due to recurrent pneumonia” as Moi’s cause of death.
Additionally, the Will presented in court showed that Moi left a 931-hectare parcel of land to be distributed among his five sons; Jonathan Kipkemboi Moi, Gideon Moi, Raymond Moi, Philip Moi and John Mark Moi.
He also gave clear orders to his trustees at Kabarak University to share the ancestral land equally among his sons who would, later on, transfer the parcel to their children.
For his three daughters: Jenifer Chemutai Moi, June Chebet Moi and Doris Chekorir Moi, he left Ksh100 million in liquid cash.
Moi is said to have drafted the Will for the first time on November 15, 2005, four years after leaving power and 14 years before his death.
He later amended and rewrote the Will on March 30, 2010.
At the time of his death, Moi was said to be worth over Sh. 400 billion.
Until the recent revelations, it remained unclear to the public how he shared the massive wealth.
