The University of Nairobi has increased hostel fees by over 600 percent and students are having none of it.
“Kindly highlight the issue of University of Nairobi hostel fee increment from 5,600 to 37,000 for 1st-year student. I don’t think many will afford and this will deny many poor kids from accessing the hostels. It’s a decision made by few people to increase the fee yet the admission letter indicates that the fee is approximately 30 bob per day. This should get to the attention of all stakeholders including CS who was the VC,” a student wrote.
Apart from increased fees for those joining in the academic year Sept 2021/2022, the university still has some unnecessary fees that are charged for undertaking classes online.
It is like they are in the process of locking many people out of education.
“Wanafunzi wanaumia. Ni Kama UON has a big problem. The Kikuyu wants to steal everything,” a student told cnyakundi.com
Kenyans have been becoming poorer since Jubilee got into power.
At this rate only a few can afford the school fees and accommodation.

UoN is joking. How can you double school fees from 28k to approx. 59k? And then to worsen the situation, you hike accommodation fees from 7k to 37k? Did you upgrade the quality of the hostel? All these hiked fees must fall.

The university of nairobi is giving parents hard times. Fee increament plus hostel rates increased by six times and parents out here are struggling.
We request the ministry of education to come out and address the issue.#Uon #kiamamustgo#nofeeincreament. #ifikiemagoha— morwani (@Am_morwani) September 15, 2021
