Tea Board of Kenya Ag. CEO Peris Mudida Dragged Into KTDA’s Scandals

Acting Tea Board of Kenya (TBK) CEO Peris Mudida

Acting Tea Board of Kenya (TBK) CEO Peris Mudida

The chief executive officer of Kenya Tea Development Agency Wilson Muthaura who was recently convicted of contempt of court is fighting off fresh allegations of involvement in underworld dealings at the Mombasa Tea Auction using Chai Tea Trading Limited.

At Chai Limited, Muthaura has planted cronies, Simon Gikanga Mbogori, the Managing Director and Mercy, the Human Resource and Administration in charge of suspicious trading that has seen KTDA lose millions of shillings.

Reports indicate that George Okoyo previously with Chacha Tea and Gokal Trading Kenya Limited, both involved in Mombasa tea auction, landed at Chai Limited as a Trading Executive, specifically to use his network with private firms involved in tea auctions at the port to help the cartel loot KTDA.

One such firm is Gokul Overseas that is using a local subsidiary GoKal Trading Kenya Limited to buy tea from KTDA using Chai Limited in what officials have flagged as undervalued prices.

Gikanga, for the short time he has held the post of Chai MD, is not leaving anything for granted and is on a mission to make millions of shillings for himself and his godfather Muthaura.

KTDA has reportedly been irregularly importing low quality tea for low blending purposes, a move that causes artificial glut, making tea farmers earn reduced prices for their produce.

Industry players also collude to fix prices and deny small-scale farmers their earnings.

KTDA manipulates the price for the highest tea grade.

The grade has consistently sold at low prices or at the same price.

Word on the street is that KTDA sells tea to Chai Trading at a lower price than the offered price.

For example, one time the price was offered $2.61 (Sh224), the price auction being much lower at $2.05 (Sh176) per kilo, yet the destination of the market was not indicated.

Selling tea outside auction venues to some big marketers is also a common practice by KTDA’s Chai Trading subsidiary.

Chai also buys teas directly from the factories at lower prices than the auction prices and imports inferior quality teas from Asia which it blends with the Kenyan teas to export as Kenyan brands.

KTDA also buys its own teas at the auction, and at much lower prices.

These teas are then shifted to traditional markets like Afghanistan, Egypt, Pakistan, UK and lately, the United Arab Emirates, which buy through agents.

Industry players are blaming the management of the Tea Board of Kenya (TBK) for being compromised by KTDA manager.

TBK’s role is to guide the development, promotion and regulation of the tea industry for the benefit of tea growers and other stakeholders, register tea factories, warehouse operators, tea packers, exporters, importers brokers and management agents.

Tea Board of Kenaya Chairman is David Mburu with directors Florence Mutembei, Mary Indeje, Kennedy Kaburi, Charles Karigwi, Josephat Gathiri, Anthony Nderitu, Michael Mandu and Peris Mudida, the acting Chief Executive Officer.

It is an open secret that powerful KTDA cartels compromised Mudida to turn a blind eye to those involved in messing up the tea sector.

At her office located at Tea Board House, Naivasha Road, money exchanges hands for one to get cleared and licensed.

Staff are openly complaining about the manner in which Mudida operates.

She constantly boasts of her closeness with KTDA Boss Wilson Muthaura and is suspected of taking advantage of the situation to push for her confirmation as TBK CEO.

Muthaura enjoys a cordial relationship with his boss, Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi and always has his ear.

He has allegedly promised Mudida that he will personally talk to Linturi and deliberate on ways to smoothen and quicken her confirmation process.

Mr Muthaura was appointed as KTDA’s chief executive following the suspension of the former head, Lerionka Tiampati.

Local media reported that upon his rise to the position, Muthaura embarked on a serious witch-hunt at the headquarters by ruthlessly sending senior staff home and replacing them with his incompetent acquaintances.

This was against due process and only inspired by greed, nepotism and tribalism.

Muthaura brought on his side Acting Company Secretary Mathews Odero.

Odero, according to an insider source, is being used to pay suspicious legal fees running to millions of shillings to a number of law firms.

To frustrate those senior managers said to be sympathetic to former directors, they have employed the services of one Grace Korit alias “GK”, as General Manager, Human Resource and Administration who took over from Muthaura.

GK, like Kennedy Ochwando, the KTDA Group Head of Procurement and Logistics, takes instructions from Muthaura.

During his tenure, Muthaura has also faced accusations of sexual escapades together with a section of KTDA’s top administration.

At KTDA, staff refer to the “mean-looking” man as “Bwana Rungu”.

GK is a frequent visitor to Bwana Rugu’s office, where they spend time plotting schemes on who to be axed or kept at work based on their loyalty to him.

Puzzle of Used Condoms In KTDA Garbage Bins

Senior managers in good books with the cartel are Esther Mburu, Manager of Audit and the stout roundhead “Francis Muthamia” the General Manager of Sales and Marketing and Kanja Thuku, the acting Manager of Operations.

Insiders say millions cannot be accounted for with Muthaura and cronies hiring choppers to criss-cross the country visiting factories and flying their slay queens to Mombasa whenever on tour.

The cartel controls the finance, human resources, procurement, operations, sales and audit departments.

Police complaints about CIC, Old Mutual and Britam Insurance

Police have ganged up against private insurers that have been awarded their KES 9 billion medical cover tender.

According to sources from the NHIF, private companies CIC, Old Mutual, and Britam Insurence bribed their way to snatch the lucrative tender from NHIF.

Hello Nyakundi, good evening,

I would like to talk about this new police medical scheme its so biased and a scam at the same time junior officers wanaumia ile mbaya.

Hawa wakora bribed the procurement teams to make sure NHIF has lost the tender.

Marketing teams have chewed with big spoons and made sure NHIF had a bigger budget than the consortium. These 3 insurance cartels don’t even have accreditation in most of the rural areas in Kenya.

National Police Service (NPS) medical insurance was snatched from the National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) and awarded the Sh 9 billion tender to CIC, Old Mutual, and Britam.

Image

According to Dr Miguna Miguna, Public workers cannot be forced to take insurance cover by private companies owned by looters like the Kenyatta’s when there is a PUBLIC SCHEME!

A source says NHIF lost because the political elite owns this big business and any smart Kenyan knows and understands that the reason why they spend millions in campaigns is to get power.

Mouth-watering premiums to private insurance Co by Police, Prison, and NIS quite irresistible kickbacks and commissions withstanding.

The comprehensive insurance cover for The Kenya police/prison service that was being offered by NHIF “expired” on (31/12/2022).

NHIF boss Mr. Peter Kamunyo has since ordered that all regional and branch managers issue a communication to healthcare providers that they were no longer having a deal with the police.

In 2019, CIC Insurance CEO Tom Gitogo abruptly quit due to bad business. The struggling  CIC Group has always stolen from its agents. Also, another theft is that once CiC realizes you qualify for more commissions they terminate you from their systems and then deny you.

UAP on the other side has also been fleecing Kenyans. They take your premiums but when you get sick they are not there. In worst cases, they even force a change of doctors to cut costs.

Read more about Old Mutual Here: https://www.cnyakundi.com/uap-old-mutual-fires-sales-team-over-diddling/

Not sure why a GoK agency like Interior Ministry would deny Sh8.7 bn business to NHIF and give to private sector. Is because NHIF can’t pay kickbacks?

Kenya is a ‘man eat man society and has been emboldened more by the lack of honesty, runaway corruption, and lack of respect for authorities and institutions

The insurance Business has a 5 to 6 per cent penetration rate in Kenya and the way the CIC, Old Mutual and Britam insurance firms are treating clients; doesn’t help to give them tenders.

A client of Britam Insurance Company wrote to cnyakundi.com complaining about the ‘art of evasion’, in the payment of insurance claims.

According to a memo from Kenya Police Service headquarters to all Regional Coordinators, Formation commanders, County Commanders and Police headquarters directorates, police officers are encountering difficulties accessing services at various medical facilities.

Police deep in Turkana just as any other junior NPS staffs in interior parts in Kenya will suffer getting healthcare because l doubt if clinic deeps in rural and ASAL areas accepts CIC, Old Mutual or Britam insurance.

Just wondering, did the State just denied its own parastatal business or the shareholders of the two private providers are at the top of our political ecosystem?

I will be serializing complaints from CIC, Old Mutual or Britam insurance and how they are offering rotten services to their clients.

KTDA Boss Linked to Corruption and Looting of Funds at Kapkoros Tea Factory

KTDA CEO Wilson Muthaura

Troubled Kenya Tea Development Authority (KTDA) CEO Wilson Muthaura has come under intense pressure to respond to allegations of leveraging the powerful position to protect his looting cronies at the Kapkoros Tea Factory.

Directors at the Bomet-based factory are currently under investigation by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) for corruption, mismanagement and pilferage of funds.

In a letter dated November 18th, 2022, sleuths from Kiambu Road headquarters wrote to the Kapkoros Tea Factory manager requesting information and documents relating to the ongoing probe.

They are looking into claims of irregular tendering, fraudulent buying and selling of land, unscrupulous employment, poor remuneration of workers and embezzlement of funds through frequent road trips.

The besieged directors have reportedly been acting under the shield of powerful forces at Farmers’ Building, along Moi Avenue, Nairobi.

The cartel boasts of strong connections within President Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza administration and more specifically the Agriculture Ministry led by CS Mithika Linturi, who is Muthaura’s tribemate.

According to insiders, Muthaura works to protect his selfish interests and those of KTDA Chairman David Ichoho.

The majority of staff simply view him as nothing more than Ichoho’s puppet.

Just like in the case of Chai Limited, where they were involved in irregular trading, Muthaura and other senior managers are looting and influencing tenders in small factories.

The Kapkoros Tea Factory is now the latest cloud to hang above Muthaura’s head.

In recent weeks, this blog has relentlessly shed light upon glaring cases of mismanagement, corruption and sexual scandals at KTDA.

Sex scandals, mega scams rock Peter Munya puppet and populist KTDA management

Various local media reported that upon his rise to the position, Muthaura embarked on a serious witch-hunt at the headquarters by ruthlessly sending senior staff home and replacing them with his incompetent acquaintances.

This was against due process and only inspired by greed, nepotism and tribalism.

At the time, he also faced accusations of sexual escapades together with a section of KTDA’s top administration.

Insiders who spoke to this blog under the request of anonymity described their boss as a “loose zip” and “serial womanizer” with an appalling level of arrogance.

“He is extremely proficient in intimidating and threatening his self-perceived enemies,” one source said.

Puzzle of Used Condoms In KTDA Garbage Bins

Most recently, he was found in contempt of court after failing to act on orders issued on reinstating the Managing Director of the Kenya Tea Packers (Ketepa) Albert Otochi and the General Manager of KTDA Power Company Japheth Sayi.

In a ruling dated December 15, 2022, Judge B O Manani, also directed the CEO to reinstate the full salary of the two officials, which had been cut to half after their suspension in September.

Sources privy to the matter, however, say that Muthaura has vowed not to follow the orders.

He was recently overheard stating that if he is forced to bring anyone back, they will be frustrated into quitting.

One way he plans to do this is by fixing them into multiple scandals and later giving them up to the authorities.

“Muthaura always brags of enjoying the backing of powerful officials in the Kenya Kwanza administration, including President William Ruto.

He says that Agriculture Cabinet Secretary (CS) Mithika Linturi is always on his speed dial whenever he needs favors from the government,” another source added.

At Chai Limited, Muthaura has planted cronies, Simon Gikanga Mbogori, the Managing Director and Mercy, the Human Resource and Administration in charge of suspicious trading that has seen KTDA lose millions of shillings.

Stanbic Kenya taken to court for facilitating and abetting fraud

Stanbic Kenya has been sued together with its employees for allegedly acting unproceduraly and without following due process in the repossession process.

The bank is accused of not following prudential guidelines and ethics in a case filed at commercial court. Stanbic Bank Limited has been sued for repossession of a motor vehicle without following due process.
Fabrice Boyi, a trader is seeking compensation for damages and loss he has experienced after he allegedly lost 3 motor vehicles he had been financed by the bank.

He says that he approached the bank in the year 2019, seeking to secure a facility to finance the purchase of a motor vehicle, Toyota Hiace, his proposal was seconded by the Bank’s finance manager Cliff Nyasinga who was ten working at Kenyatta Avenue Branch.

On 24 July 2019, Boyi informed the bank that he would purchase that car from Toyota Kenya and the bank agreed to finance him.
“Nyasinga facilitated all the transactions and we co-owned the motor vehicle together with the bank, “says Boyi.

In court documents, Boyi says that he was remitting the money to the bank as per the Hire Purchase agreement.

He says that in the year 2021, Nyasinga approached him wanting to lease the Toyota Hiace for a business venture where they were to work with another person George Ndeti Kikuvi.

Boyi says it’s Nyasinga who introduced him to Ndeti for the car hire. The terms of the leasing agreement were that they were to first deposit Sh 600,000 which they did on March 1, 2021.

The subsequent monthly payments were to be Sh 250,000 to be paid every first month of the year.

He claims that after he handed over the car to the two, they refused to pay monthly instalments and refused to return back his car.
Boyi tried to seek redress from the bank but it refused to grant him car track information and the details of his transactions.

“Failure by the bank to provide me with the car information demonstrate that the bank was part and parcel of the fraudulent scheme of the two, “he added in court documents.

The aggrieved businessman says that he approached the bank seeking his account statements but the bank provided information about a different car with different number plates. They provided KCW 693E which was not the correct registration number of the motor vehicle.

He says that the tracking company that had placed tracking devices on his car Tecno Tracking limited said they did not have information about his car.

Boyi says that The two bank officials had made a well-planned scheme to defraud him and steal his car. Boyi said that he reported the matter to the police and the two were arrested and that the criminal case is ongoing at the lower courts.

Boyi also adds that he had again purchased another vehicle HONDA CRV valued at 1.1M, he said Nyasinga had informed him that he will facilitate the importation of the car but he came to learn that the accused changed the details of the car and replaced them with is.

He lost this Honda too. Nyasinga was to inform him when the car arrives at the port so that he can make a clearance but he refused to communicate again. In this matter, Nyasinga is charged together and Esther Wanjiku.
The complainant adds that in a separate transaction, the bank facilitated the purchase of the third car Mitsubishi, he says he would use it in the transportation of his company goods.

He says that after Covid-19 hit the country, his company suffered a great loss and he could not able to pay the bank’s loan as required.
He approached the Bank seeking an extension of loan repayment but the bank refused and through Startruck Auctioneers, the bank repossessed that car without following due diligence.

Boyi says that the bank went ahead and listed him on CRB which made his company suffer a loss because he could not borrow money anywhere.
Boyi contends that the bank did not act in good faith when listing him with CRB and denying him any further funding.

He wants special damages for the loss of business amounting to over 48 million, a declaration that the acts of Stanbic and that of Nyasinga contravene the law.

He also wants the court to order the release of his HONDA and Toyota motor vehicles.

The complainant is accusing Nyasinga of taking out a new insurance policy on the motor vehicle KCW639E when there was a comprehensive cover for the same.

He is accusing him of withholding Information of the whereabouts of his car, causing the car to be taken out of his reach to the guise of hire, refusing to return the car despite numerous demands to do so, failing to inform the complainant about the arrival of his Honda car, holding himself to be the purchaser of the HONDA car, transferring the ownership of Honda car to himself against the law among other allegations.

Ndeti on the other hand is accused of entering into an agreement with Boyi knowing very well he will not be able to honour it, withholding information as to the whereabouts of the Toyota Hiace Car, changing insurance company and refusing to return the car to the owner.
Stanbic is accused of providing Boyi with false records of the account statements with regard to the loan for the purchase of Toyota Hiace KCW369E, withholding tracking information, listing him to CRB and failing to follow due process in repossessing his Mitsubishi car.
He says the bank is responsible for the actions of the two of its employees, he says the respondents have refused to compensate him and have ignored all demands.

Boyi is seeking special damages and damages for the loss of business amounting to over 60 million, a declaration that the acts of Stanbic and of Nyasinga contravene the law.

He also wants the court to order the release of his HONDA and Toyota motor vehicles.

Piga Sauti 8: Seniors showing middle finger to junior cops at Kenya Railways

$

In this episode, we light the torch on how the senior cops are treating juniors like toilet cleaners.

Piga sauti part 7: Police and KRA supporting the sale of cheap and fake liquor

Hallo Nyakundi,

Allow me to pass this over to you kindly and if you can hide my I.D well am an officer attached at the railway’s police station and I have two comments to put across.

1. As you know railways is a parastatal institution and all officers attached at the said parastatal are liable for a monthly allowance, but to our surprise the said money meant for police officers is pocketed by some politicians and our seniors who are supposed to defend our welfare.

If there is a way you can be of help please do since you know police officers have no union to look into our welfare.

Piga Sauti Part 6: How I was assaulted by a Lawyer and MCA protected by Police Officers

2. There is one inspector Chacha who always reports everything to the commandant railways the officer in question frustrates fellow officers more so junior officers by saying that he has influence he can urge the commandant to transfer them.

We are living in fear because we never know what tomorrow has for us.

He even colludes with a few civilians where he coaches them to give false allegations about an officer he doesn’t conquer with him even giving out their service number so that the allegation can look real.

As railway police officers we are tired of the above two sentiments.

We have vowed no officer will commit suicide but look into ways we can be assisted since our seniors who are supposed to help us are of no help instead they are the ones oppressing us

How Politically Motivated KTDA Directors Irregularly Approved Sh18bn Bonus to Woo Farmers

KTDA chairman David Ichoho and Group CEO Wilson Muthaura

A FILE photo of KTDA chairman David Ichoho and Group CEO Wilson Muthaura

Besieged CEO Wilson Muthaura and Chairman David Ichoho have been dragged into a fresh controversy at the scandal-laden Kenya Tea Development Agency (KTDA).

Officials in the Ministry of Agriculture are now investigating the circumstances under which the agency borrowed a Sh18.2 billion loan to pay an early bonus to farmers ahead of last year’s general election in August.

Even as insiders within the ministry continue to gather more information on the factors leading up to the occurrence, Cabinet Secretary (CS) Mithika Linturi has blamed the previous administration-led by his predecessor Peter Munya-of coercing KTDA directors to take the loan forgetting that the current Peter Munya puppet populist administration is the one responsible for the scandal.

According to Linturi, Munya’s move was an attempt to influence farmers into voting for his preferred presidential candidate.

Records show that KTDA mortgaged its shares worth Sh18.2 billion to pay an early bonus to farmers ahead of the polls.

The loan was guaranteed by the KTDA Management Service, a subsidiary of KTDA Holdings.

Some of its directors include Wilson Muthaura, Dorcas Mugure Mwangi, Julius Misuko Onguso, Mathews Ouma Odero and Simeon Kiprotich Rugutt.

KTDA normally closes its books on June 30 with the bonus payment to farmers approved in September ahead of disbursement in October, but the 2021/2022 bonus was paid at the beginning of July.

The books had not been closed and audited by the time the company paid the bonus.

The money was borrowed from multiple banks that included NCBA and Standard Chartered Bank Kenya.

The disclosure on the debenture was recorded on September 2, 2022, by the registrar of companies after the company had paid the bonus.

The loan has subjected farmers to extra costs as they are paying interest on the borrowed amount through their respective factories.

For instance, farmers in Chinga tea factory in Nyeri had to pay close to Sh3 million in interest from the Sh200 million that they had received to pay an early bonus, according to the management.

Kisumu-based Firm Wins Big Against First Community Bank

First Community Bank

First Community Bank

A Kisumu-based firm has scored a big win against First Community bank after the High Court found it culpable for negligence in the case of unknown persons opening accounts in the firm’s name, depositing cheques stolen from the company and withdrawing the money.

In her ruling, Justice Roselyn Aburili ordered First Community Bank to refund Sh1.2 million to Jumbo Foam Mattresses Industries Ltd.

The forgeries were detected after the company’s executives reported suspicious activity to the Banking Fraud unit which discovered that the account was opened by two strangers, Philip Owala Odera Odero and Simon Okumu Majimbo in February 2014.

The court ruled that the lender, First Community Bank, failed to exercise due diligence when the account was opened and allowed it to operate, causing the company loss of money.

The two individuals used forged documents to open the account.

Cheques would vanish from the company and be deposited in the account before being withdrawn.

“I am satisfied that the appellant proved on a balance of probabilities that the respondent was negligent in the manner that it handled the entire transaction with the persons who turned out to be fraudsters, leading to the appellant losing substantial sums of money where its cheques were deposited and withdrawn from an account opened and operated by the fraudsters,” Justice Aburili said.

The judge noted that as per the evidence presented before the court, the bank did not conduct a search at the company’s registry or conduct background checks as required when the bank account was opened.

She added that had the lender carried out due diligence on the directors of the company, it would have easily been found out that the individuals operating the account were not the actual directors or even its representatives.

The company lost the case at the lower court, but won after appealing to the High Court.

EACC In Pursuit of LAPFUND Official Over Sh16bn Contract

Integrity Centre

Integrity Centre, Nairobi

Sleuths from the Ethics and Anti-corruption Commission (EACC) are in pursuit of a senior official at the Local Authorities Provident Fund (LAPFUND) over an inflated Sh16 billion contract.

The official reportedly fell out with a tenderpreneur after their scheme to have a preferred company awarded the deal failed to materialize.

The inflated housing development project in Bellevue Estate, Nairobi, was projected to cost Sh8 billion, but the tender price was controversially valued at Sh16 billion.

According to impeccable sources, the tendering and evaluation committee was allegedly micromanaged, influenced and coerced by top officials from the management.

Even though the tender processing committee was sharply divided by this intimidation and micromanagement, the leadership took a decision to award the tender to their preferred bidder.

Reports gathered by cnyakundi.com suggest that the former bosom-buddies-turned-foes have since severed all ties.

The official, whose continued stay at the institution remains uncertain, is now in deep fear that his contract could soon be cancelled.

Sources say that the situation is so tense that the official has embarked on a lobbying spree to save his job, including seeking legal interpretation from the Office of the Attorney General.

Things Are Bad!

Hello Nyakundi,

A police officer suffered multiple stab wounds on his way to work this morning near Safari Park hotel along Thika Road. He was rushed to a nearby hospital for medical attention and he could not be admitted because the hospital says the officer is not under any medical cover!

The other day, NPS said servicemen will from 0000hrs 1/1/2023 be covered by CIC General Insurance Ltd (CIC).

May be an image of text

NPS announced dumping NHIF and gave an alternative to its members.

The stabbed serviceman is now suffering and colleagues are now fundraising to have the officer admitted.

Has NPS turned out to be a Political outfit making political decisions with fake promises?

Earlier today, a police officer shared a complaint with the Chief Editor of cnyakundi.com on how cops are suffering.

Hello Nyakundi,

Am sending this to inform you that police officers are suffering with the private cover taking over from the national scheme NHIF.

Our dependants are suffering.

Our fellow officers are in hospitals dying. Why is the NPS changing every policy that had been created to assist us?

Controller of Budget Terrorizing Nairobi MCAs

Dr Margaret Nyakang'o

Controller of Budget Margaret Nyakang’o

Members of the Nairobi City County Assembly have raised an alarm over massive corruption in the Office of The Controller of Budget.

They claim that unscrupulous officials in the state department are hell-bent on frustrating MCAs by demanding kickbacks for every process sent to them by the Nairobi City County.

“Controller of Budget is now demanding kickbacks to approve car loans and mortgage to MCAs which were approved by the SRC and also budgeted for,” one angry MCA lamented on Thursday.

According to the ward representatives, the corrupt officials grew accustomed to receiving kickbacks during the reign of former Majority Leader Abdi Guyo, who is the current Isiolo governor.

“The controller of Budget is becoming a menace. They have refused to move on from the old Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS) days because the former Majority Leader made them so used to the kickbacks,” a county legislator who spoke in anonymity added.

The MCAs have further urged the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission to swiftly move in and rescue the Nairobi City County from the grip of the Dr. Margaret Nyakang’o-led office.

The Office of Controller of Budget of Kenya is an Independent Office established under Article 228 of The Constitution of Kenya, with the core mandate being to oversee the implementation of the budgets of the National and County Governments by authorizing withdrawal from public funds.

KTDA Bosses Issue Panic Statement Amidst Wave of Scandals

Following our extensive coverage of the stinking rot at the Kenya Tea Development Agency (KTDA) there finally seems to be some light at the end of the tunnel.

In recent weeks, we have highlighted a myriad of mega evils at the agency, ranging from mega financial scams, and legal troubles, to shocking sexual scandals involving the top hierarchy.

Out of panic, the agency’s besieged bosses on Friday issued a statement in a poor attempt to defend themselves from the earth-shattering reports, including the latest controversy of a Sh18.2 billion loan that was used to pay an early bonus to farmers ahead of last year’s general election in August.

In its shallow communiqué, KTDA failed to address the elephant in the room.

The CEO Wilson Muthaura and Board Chairman David Ichoho failed to explain their politically motivated decision to borrow the illegal tea bonus loans and those responsible for the heinous crime; all just to swing votes in favor of Azimio candidate Raila Odinga.

“KTDA Holdings takes great exception at the malignment of the organization and its management staff which is occasioned by the continued publication of the libellous and unfounded claims. To this effect, KTDA is seeking legal redress on the issues,” the statement read in part.

This comes just days after officials in the Ministry of Agriculture confirmed they are looking into the circumstances under which the agency borrowed the hefty sum.

Speaking on the latest development, Cabinet Secretary (CS) Mithika Linturi blamed the previous administration for coercing KTDA directors to take the loan, forgetting that his predecessor Peter Munya’s current puppet populist administration is the one responsible for the scandal.

According to Linturi, Munya’s move was an attempt to influence farmers into voting for his preferred presidential candidate from the Azimio camp.

Records show that KTDA mortgaged its shares worth Sh18.2 billion to pay the bonus.

The money was borrowed from multiple banks that included NCBA and Standard Chartered Bank Kenya.

Nothing changed at KTDA as tea sector now riddled with corruption

The family of slain LQBTQ activist Edwin Kiprotich Kiptoo alias “Chiloba” on Friday positively identified his body at the Moi Referral Hospital morgue in Eldoret.

His sister Melvin Faith and other relatives were present at the morgue where a postmortem was carried out on the body.

Speaking to the press, Melvin narrated her final moments with her brother whom they met for new year celebrations at Tamasha place in Eldoret.

Melvin, who works at the entertainment joint, disclosed that the deceased arrived at about 10 pm with a friend whom she did not know.

They stayed at the club until the New Year’s fireworks show and left at around 1 am.

“I met him, and he bid me farewell saying he would miss me,” she narrated while fighting back tears.

Melvin further noted that Chiloba did not look disturbed on the specific day and was rather jovial.

“I did not sense any problem, but little did I know that it would be the last time I was seeing my brother.”

The family says Chiloba lived in a rented house at Kimumu town on the Eldoret-Iten Road.

Police in Eldoret say they are now following crucial leads to establish those involved in the murder of Chiloba on Wednesday.

Police have identified the house where the deceased lived, but it was not clear how he met his death.

“We will tie up some information we have and that may lead to arrests,” Uasin Gishu head of DCI Peter Kimulwo assured the public.

Chiloba was found murdered, and his body stashed in a metallic box along the Kipenyo-Kaptinga road, in Kapsaret, Uasin Gishu.

Police said initial reports indicate a numberless vehicle was seen dropping the metal box in the area by a Bodaboda rider who was driving by the area when it happened.

The matter was reported to police officers who were manning a nearby roadblock.

The officers abandoned their post and rushed to the scene.

Upon opening the box, a decomposing body of a man dressed in a woman’s clothes was found inside.

It was later established that the deceased was Eldoret-based fashion designer Chiloba.

Chiloba was a known LGBTQ advocate in the area.

Months after his political coalition suffered a major defeat in last year’s general elections, former Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho seems to have swiftly moved on and back to his lavish lifestyle of fast cars, hot girls and wander lusting.

In his latest social media flex, the “Sultan”—as his thousands of loyal followers affectionately refer to him—posted a nicely taken portrait as he calmly inhales some fresh air on the tranquil Palm Jumeirah Boardwalk in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Donned in a jungle green tracksuit, he gazes into the deep and beautiful horizon akin to someone reminiscing the past.

The photo shared via Instagram on Sunday, January 6, 2022, quickly captured the of netizens who could not help but notice that the scenic view held a striking similarity to one where Agnes Kibanja, girlfriend of comedian and media personality Vincent Muasya alias “Chipukeezy”, recently visited.

A quick spot check shows that Miss Kibanja uploaded the photo to mark her birthday, just three days before the politician shared his picture posing in the same spot.

The unprecedented “coincidence” raised many eyebrows as Kenyans wondered whether there is any direct relation between the two separate events.

This hardly came as a surprise, given Joho’s habit of devouring thirsty socialites who can’t help but gush over his healthy looks and opulent display.

In the past, the previously married ODM adherent has been linked to numerous mistresses, including former TV girl Betty Kyallo, Afro-Latina businesswoman Caroline Brooks and curvaceous Kenyan vlogger Natalie Tewa.

In February 2022, word went out that Joho was officially single after his divorce papers leaked online.

Joho married Madina Giovanni Fazzini on February 11, 2011, but in January 2013, they separated.

Madina filed for divorce at the Kadhis court after their separation in 2013.

In her own words, in court, Madina Fazzini said the marriage was long dead and could not be revived due to irreconcilable differences.

Madina said that Joho moved out of their matrimonial home in 2013, leaving her with their two children.

Kibanja and Chipukeezy were in deep romance but parted ways in 2020 under unclear circumstances.

Despite their split, the two remained friends and continued to hang out for some time.

Corruption at Bondo Sub-County Hospital

Bondo Sub-County Referral Hospital

Bondo Sub-County Referral Hospital

Concerned Kenyans have lifted the lid on widespread corruption at the Bondo Sub-county Hospital where a cabal of greedy medics is allegedly holding its financial channels hostage.

The corrupt hospital staff are accused of running a well-orchestrated scheme to ensure that payments made at the facility are not logged in the government system as stipulated by the law.

They repeatedly force patients to pay for services in cash and have devised cunning ways of retaining the manual receipt that indicates the cost of treatment.

Those that insist on paying via mobile money options like M-Pesa are asked to withdraw the funds at a nearby shop.

Aside from this blatant theft, the hospital is also reported to be out of drugs.

They direct patients to buy their prescriptions from a private chemist outside the facility.

The situation is said to be prevalent in public hospitals across the country.

A source who spoke to us on Tuesday, January 3, 2023, had to say about the sad state of affairs.

“Hi, Nyakundi. Good Morning.

Something is going on in some public hospitals.

I was in Bondo sub-county hospital yesterday.

They diagnosed me with malaria.

Funny thing, no payment was entered into their systems.

Sh600 bob consultation was paid, and they wrote a manual receipt.

Nikatumwa, rudi room number 1 upatie daktari hii karatasi.

After kupatia daktari, akaniambia niende nipimwe damu for malaria/typhoid.

After kurudi, akaniambia hiyo karatasi nimempa imepotea lakini ananikumbuka.

She prescribed medications, then akasema hawana hizo madaw hapo, nitaenda chemist ninunue huko nje, and I should make sure hiyo karatasi iko na results za blood test and prescribed medicines, nisiwachie mtu wa chemist. I make sure nimeenda nayo nyumbani.

Then akaitisha Sh600 as treatment fees. I gave out 1 thousand note, hakuwa na change.

Akaita student fulani wa KMTC aende na mimi huko nje kutafuta change then arudi na mia sita ampatie chai yake.

Huko nje, my brother mwenye alikua amenileta ndio akaniambia, they are doing something very wrong.

There is no record showing I was in that hospital.

Hizo pesa nimelipa haizitafikia government, hizo ni za hao madaktari directly. It’s corruption happening before our eyes.

Not to mention, niliingia kwa daktari akiwa na another female patient, who was also told ako na typhoid, hawana madawa, aende akanunue huko nje. She wanted to pay via M-Pesa, just like I initially wanted.

Unaambiwa, enda kwa mpesa hapo nje and withdraw, ukuje ulipe cash.

Kindly expose this and keep my identity anonymous,” the source lamented.

Students walking along the Kenya Methodist University main campus entrance

The Kenya Methodists University (KeMU) stirred controversy after its Dean of Students Esther Mbaabu in a memo dated January 5, 2023, set out a new dress code.

“The dean of Students wishes to encourage all students to adopt a style of dressing and appearance that would be acceptable in various fields of work and society in general,” the memo read.

The memo contained a list of what is considered inappropriate dressing at the institution during the study, for mealtime, or any other university function.

For instance, the institution has prohibited its female students from wearing crop tops that expose their belly and naval as well as clothes that expose their backs.

Others are miniskirts above the knee line and skirts with slits above the knee line.

Additionally, students’ dresses and blouses should not have necklines running down more than 4 inches and they should not wear body-tight trousers and see-through clothes.

They have further prohibited male students from showing up in rasta/dreadlocks or plaited hair and instead asked them to have well-groomed hair.

They cannot wear vests that show bare chests or hats/caps in class or offices and should not have untucked shirts or earrings.

“He Hugs Them Tightly and Offers Tea” – Syokimau Headteacher Exposed For Preying on Female Pupils

Syokimau Blessed Assurance Academy

Syokimau Blessed Assurance Academy

A teacher at a popular school in Syokimau, Machakos County, is on the spot over allegations of preying on female pupils.

Writing to this blog on Wednesday, January 4, 2022, a concerned parent at Blessed Assurance Academy claimed that the new school head has brought with him a host of paedophile tendencies which he manifests in broad daylight.

The source informed us that, for instance, he has developed a despicable habit of inviting girls to his office, giving them a tight hug, and proceeding to offer some tea.

There are also claims of the school’s support staff repeatedly molesting female pupils as young as 6 years.

The parent has faulted the current administration for failing to act upon numerous complaints raised about the disturbing issue.

All grievances submitted to the school secretary fall on deaf ears.

Below is what the frustrated parent had to say.

“Greetings Nyakundi.

Mimi naomba unipostie hii.

Kuna shule inaitwa Blessed Assurance Academy Syokimau.

Now, the school has a new head teacher whom they hired after the previous one left, either for greener pastures or just for something else.

My problem is that since then, there has been insecurity among our children, especially girls.

My daughter reported to me that the head will always call her in the morning into the office to hug her tightly and give her tea, not once, not twice.

I have also happened to hear that a parent complained of her daughter, who is only 6 years old, being molested by a support staff, who is old enough to be her great grandfather.

The school receptionist, or rather the secretary who has stayed there, I believe since the school was started, is rude enough to approach and channel our grievances so that it reaches the owners of the school.

So who in the school should really be at the forefront to show a good example?

Doesn’t it seem that every section of the school is rotten?

Please post this and advise on the best school around Syokimau/Katani,” the source wrote.

Nairobi Sex Workers Decry Shortage of Clients

Sex workers pose along a street in Nairobi

Sex workers stationed along Kenyatta Avenue in Nairobi, on Saturday, held a fundraiser for their colleague who reported to ‘work’ with her child.

According to those who were present at the scene, the young woman claimed harsh living conditions forced her to go with her baby since she had nobody to leave it with.

She lamented that her life had become unbearable since she can barely get any clients.

“The house help left without notice after I failed to pay her for two months. I don’t have money and I need to feed my child and my other two children who are upcountry living with my mother,” she stated.

Her colleagues contributed a sum of Sh700 to the lady, which she gladly received as she badly needed to buy food.

The sex workers decried the rising cost of living and the difficult times in businesses.

“Majority of us are at risk of contracting diseases such as pneumonia due to cold and poor nutrition,” a call girl expressed in regret.

Adding: “As low business affects other sectors, we are also hard hit. We will have to shift and go back upcountry to do farming. There’s totally no business here.”

Despite health and harassment risks, many engage in prostitution because of poverty, joblessness and few by choice.

Across the country, more than 200,000 workers operate in the sex business.

Nairobi alone has more than 40,000 sex workers.

But in recent years, demand for street workers has fallen, prostitution business is gradually moving to a new frontier—the internet.

You can find a date through an app or a website. Or she can find you.

Pity the old-fashioned sex workers, who don’t know how to make the best of their smartphones or God-given gifts.

Or are too unimaginative to figure out how to shift their services online.

Jackton Odhiambo, the main suspect in the murder of fashionista Edwin Chiloba has confessed to killing the model over allegations that he cheated on him.

According to Langas OCPD John Odhiambo, Jackton executed the murder with the help of his two friends who are still at large.

The suspect says that he murdered Chiloba as revenge for betraying him in their relationship.

Odhiambo who had been staying with the deceased for a period of one year in Eldoret was arrested yesterday as the main suspect in the murder.

The two used to live together.

Chiloba’s caretaker Alex Nyamwea says that Jackton Odhiambo called him using Chiloba’s phone on January 4th informing him that he was vacating the house they lived in.

And true to his words, Odhiambo vacated the house with immediate effect.

Odhiambo and Chiloba were spotted having fun at a popular club on the outskirts of Eldoret town on January 1, 2023, as they ushered in the New Year.

Police established that duo left the club at around 3:00 am and headed to where they lived.

When they arrived at the house, the neighbours said they heard some commotion which subsided after a while.

Neighbours claim that they did not follow up on the cause of the commotion.

They, however, told police that they spotted two people loading a metal box into a vehicle whose registration number was concealed and left.

Chiloba’s decomposing body was found stashed in a metal box on the Kipenyo–Kaptinga road in Kapsaret constituency, Uasin Gishu County.

Boda Boda riders said that they saw a vehicle, whose registration number was concealed, dump the box along the road and they alerted the police.

The deceased’s adoptive parents Peter Pfaltzgraff and his wife Donna said their hearts were broken following Chiloba’s death.
