Yesterday, angry Makueni County residents brought business to a standstill at the county’s HQs when they held demonstrations at the Office of the Governor. The residents were demanding to have the County’s CEO together with the Ministers account for the funds allocated to the county since they took power.

The angry residents demanded for the immediate resignation of the Governor, chief Of staff Musyoka Kivungi and Sub-county administrators who have continuously made the county drag behind in terms of development. Among them were business people who are extremely perturbed by the county government’s action that has seen several business premises demolished permanently after introduction of draconian laws.

They further demanded statement from Governor Kibwana explaining: –

1. Burning of the county assembly,
2. Lost computers from highly guarded governor’s Office,
3. Unaccountable Sh1.1bn in 2013/2014 FY
4. Retarded development of the county.

On a different note, there were highly charged moments over the weekend in Kyuma’s funeral- one of Governor Kivutha’s critics from Kambu – where mourners and the county government critics were stoned and harassed by goons allegedly hired by the county staff. They cursed the act of ferrying hired goons to funerals & also grading of roads ONLY after demise of prominent people.

It will be remembered that Makueni residents had signed a petition to force a by-election and dissolve the county in its entirety, a view that was also shared by the Mohammed Nyaoga Committee. Unfortunately, President Uhuru was misadvised by Governors not to dissolve Makueni, and he was baited that such an action would also put his position as in jeopardy.
