KENHA Overseeing Shoddy Roadworks By Giving Tenders To Quacks
This post seeks to notify the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) of the bribery scandals where quacks bribe Kenya National Higways Authority (KENHA) officials so as to win tenders which they are not qualified to do.
Most of the engineering firms that have been awarded road construction tenders by KENHA are either incompetent or KENHA directors ask for a lot of money such that the contractors are left with very little to do the jobs right.
Below is a case of Mombasa – Kilifi – Malindi road that you Mr. Twalib Mbarak Should investigate.
Hi Nyakundi,
I guess this road, Mombasa – Kilifi – Malindi also falls under Kenya National Higways Authority (KENHA).
The ongoing project involves repairs on the shoulders with gravel improved with cement and surface dressing with chipping.
The contractor doing this work is doing a pathetic job.
I wonder if KENHA is indeed supervising this road to ensure that the contractor adheres to specifications.
The ongoing works towards Kilifi is not even complete and the section that was done recently from mombasa is already potholed.
The shoulders being done by the contractor are not of uniform width.
The slopes are not standard and uniform.
The shoulders do not drain away water from the road as is required. The gravel which is mixed with cement is dumped on ground which is not adequately graded to remove vegetation and topsoil.
The bitumen used for priming before laying the chipping is left exposed and trafficked for long.
By the time the chipping is applied, the ground is already damaged hence the appearance of potholes on a newly done section.
This project is a classic example of how low the standards have gone in road construction. I doubt if the contractor is experienced in the kind of work he is doing.
KENHA is letting this contractor get away with very shoddy job which should not qualify for payment at all.
Please pass this information to EACC so that they may establish if the public is getting value for money on the work being carried out on such an important highway.
Thank you
