The Huduma namba mass registration exercise has come to an end Saturday following a one week extension by the president.
The exercise closed at 6pm Saturday paving way for a comprehensive clean-up of data collected in the two month Huduma Namba exercise and individuals who might have filed wrong information will be contacted for fresh registration.
Just hours after the completion, a number of social media users who resisted the exercise were sent into panic mode after many of them reported that they couldn’t access M-Pesa services.
Even Kenyan blogger Dennis Owino couldn’t make any M-Pesa transactions and immediately sent out a tweet asking whether other Kenyans who didn’t register for the Huduma Number could use the service.
Looks like Mpesa has blocked me. For the first time from where I am, I can’t access Mpesa services, I’ve been able to do it freely in several countries. So with #HudumaNamba expropriation, seems like my thousands are drowned @SafaricomPLC ? pic.twitter.com/Hlr1I5CSqK

Although many Kenyans confirmed they could easily transact money, quite a number of them said they couldn’t.
Leaving many Kenyans wondering whether the controversial telecommunications company had started suspending it’s M-Pesa services on users who haven’t signed up for the Huduma Number.
A few weeks ago, several local media houses reported the state had announced that the Communications Authority of Kenya would switch off SIM cards whose owners had failed to register for Huduma Namba by May 18th 2019.
