Catherine Kamau, popularly known as Kate Actress, has moved on after her divorce from Philip Karanja and is now dating Michael Mwangi, the General Manager of The Tribe Hotel, a five-star hotel located in Gigiri, Nairobi.
The actress is one of the most successful and versatile actors in Kenya and has won several awards, including the Kalasha Award for Best Actress in a TV Drama in 2019.
She is the face of Nice & Lovely L’Oreal in Kenya and the Harpic brand ambassador and has also starred in several Netflix shows, playing Shiko in Nafsi and TK in Disconnect as well as local shows such as Plan B (which she co-produced with her ex-husband) and ‘Sue na Jonnie’.
Catherine Kamau became famous after she portrayed the character Selina in the popular Citizen TV show “Mother-in-law.”
According to sources close to the couple, they have been dating for a year now.
Before assuming the role of General Manager at The Tribe Hotel, Michael Mwangi held the position of Executive Chef.
His passion for food is evident in the culinary content he frequently shares on his Instagram account.
Kate and Mwangi’s relationship comes after the actress announced her divorce from Philip Karanja, a celebrated actor and director, in September 2023.
The two had been married for five years, having exchanged vows on November 17, 2017, at Windsor Hotel.
They had a daughter, Karla Njeri, and also raised Kate’s son, Leon from a previous relationship.
The former celebrity couple said they had parted ways amicably and remained friends, co-parents, and business partners.
They asked for privacy for themselves and their children.
Kate and Phil had worked together on several projects, including the film Plan B, which they co-produced under their company, Phil-It Productions.
The actress has not revealed the reason for her divorce but said they had reached this decision sometime before the public statement but had chosen to keep it private.
Months after the breakup, Kate added an accolade to her achievements after she received a state commendation from President William Ruto.
