In the political landscape of the three counties of Kisumu, Siaya, Migori, and Homa Bay in Luo Nyanza, where Raila Odinga’s word is law, the Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) faces a grave threat to its business operations following his recent declaration that the bank and its services are no longer unwelcome in the region.

This announcement by the Azimio Coalition was made in light of allegations that KCB played a role in helping Ruto secure the presidency in the August election.

The residents of the four counties have pledged to heed Raila’s call to boycott the bank.

It remains to be seen whether the bank will open for business on Mondays and Thursdays, which are scheduled as Azimio’s mass action and demonstrations days.

The closure of the bank for two days a week will undoubtedly result in significant financial losses, and given the current political climate, Raila’s supporters are likely to ensure that the banks do not operate in the region until he calls off the boycott.

KCB has over 15 branches in the affected counties.

On days of demonstration, for the safety of the bank and its employees, it is advisable not to open the branches as they could be targeted by protesters.

Reports suggest that Raila’s supporters in the four counties have pledged to boycott products that he identifies, which leaves KCB with few options but to either shut down and relocate to safer counties or seek Baba’s intervention to end the boycott.
