Kenyan Worker Pleads For Help After Saudi Employer Forbids Her From Attending Mother’s Burial

Carren Makhulu, a Kenyan girl working in Saudi Arabia, is in distress after her mother tragically passed away last week in Nairobi.

Makhulu’s mother, a single parent, died on the spot after missing a step on a staircase.

With the burial scheduled for March 10th, Makhulu is desperate to travel back to Kenya to attend the burial and to make arrangements for her younger siblings.

However, her Saudi Arabian boss has denied her permission to travel, leaving her stranded and helpless.

Makhulu has repeatedly attempted to seek help through her agent, Flip Travel Agency, but has yet to receive any assistance.

Despite her pleas to return to Kenya for the funeral, her boss has refused to grant her permission to travel.

On Sunday, Makhulu was taken to the Saudi Arabian office and instead of being helped, she was harassed by the Saudi agent and almost assaulted by her employer.

Makhulu is currently in a state of depression and confusion due to her mother’s sudden passing and the possibility of missing her burial.

In search of a solution to this unfortunate situation, her family is calling on authorities to intervene and help her travel back to Kenya so she can attend the burial as well as make arrangements for her siblings.

They have also requested that her Saudi Arabian employer and the rogue agency that sent her to the country will be held accountable for her mistreatment during such a difficult time.

This case highlights the challenges that many migrant workers face while working abroad, particularly with regard to their limited ability to travel back to their home countries during emergencies.

We hope that the government will intervene and ensure Makhulu’s family will find reprieve.
