Comedian Terence Creative poses with a signed contract alongside AMG Realtors founder and CEO Andrew Muthee Gitau
Popular comedian and social media influencer Lawrence Macharia, also known by his stage name “Terrence Creative” is facing backlash from the public for promoting a shady real estate company, AMG Realtors: a company with a questionable reputation based along Thika Road.
When announcing the paid partnership, Terrence claimed to have done his “due diligence” before signing the deal.
“Today I am proud and happy to be joining AMG Realtors, having done my due diligence. I will be showing you around different parcels across the country that they have and we have done thorough checks on their title deeds, from the mother title to individual titles,” he posted on Facebook.
“I can confidently say you can invest with AMG Realtors. Stay tuned as I take you around their offices and different areas in this country where you can invest.”
However, many were sceptical of his ability to conduct such a thorough investigation, as he lacks any background in Kenyan law.
Such a process involves reviewing complex legal and financial information about a company or business.
While dismissing his claims as laughable, some argued that the truth is, Terrence probably knows little to nothing about the company he is promoting.
One lawyer took to Twitter to express his scepticism about Terrence’s ability to conduct due diligence on land.
“Is this Terrence Creative doing due diligence on land?” he tweeted.
“An influencer doing due diligence is a disaster about to happen,” another Twitter user added.

AMG Realtors, owned and named after its founder Andrew Muthee Gitau, has a questionable background.
Gitau left Kenya in 2006 for New York to work with Proctor and Gamble as a senior sales executive. He worked there for one year before being redeployed to South Africa.
Less than four years later, he resigned from his job and returned to Kenya in 2011.
He joined his father’s business of selling cars but “failed miserably”. This is when he joined the lucrative land business.
The decision by Terrence to promote the company has been heavily condemned, as it puts his gullible followers at risk of being misled and falling victim to land fraud.
Unfortunately, this is not an isolated incident as many brand influencers in Kenya have joined the controversial real estate industry.
In recent months, cases of land fraud, especially in Nairobi and its environs, have been on a sharp increase.
This year alone, multiple incidents of land-related crime have been reported, involving dangerous cartels headed by city politicians and music industry celebrities who are daring and brazen in their actions.
Given the prevalence of such cases, it would not be implausible to speculate that Terrence may be promoting a company that engages in similar nefarious activities.
Many investors in Kenya fall prey to these scams due to aggressive social media marketing strategies, as well as the influence of prominent figures such as Terrence.
The recent scandal involving Lesedi Developers, in which well-known Kikuyu musicians like Karangu Muraya and Muigai Wa Njoroge were enlisted to promote plots for sale serves as a prime illustration of this tactic.
Following this latest partnership, the public’s trust in Terrence’s credibility and judgment has been called into question.
From a quick spot check, some of his adherent followers have expressed disappointment and have urged him to be more responsible and ethical in the promotions he chooses to accept.
They have urged him not to sell his soul for modest financial incentives he may have received for promoting the company.
We have always insisted that it is important for the public to be vigilant and conduct their own research before investing in any real estate company, especially those paraded by influencers who may not have the necessary expertise or knowledge.
