Sleuths from the Ethics and Anti-corruption Commission (EACC) are in pursuit of a senior official at the Local Authorities Provident Fund (LAPFUND) over an inflated Sh16 billion contract.
The official reportedly fell out with a tenderpreneur after their scheme to have a preferred company awarded the deal failed to materialize.
The inflated housing development project in Bellevue Estate, Nairobi, was projected to cost Sh8 billion, but the tender price was controversially valued at Sh16 billion.
According to impeccable sources, the tendering and evaluation committee was allegedly micromanaged, influenced and coerced by top officials from the management.
Even though the tender processing committee was sharply divided by this intimidation and micromanagement, the leadership took a decision to award the tender to their preferred bidder.
Reports gathered by cnyakundi.com suggest that the former bosom-buddies-turned-foes have since severed all ties.
The official, whose continued stay at the institution remains uncertain, is now in deep fear that his contract could soon be cancelled.
Sources say that the situation is so tense that the official has embarked on a lobbying spree to save his job, including seeking legal interpretation from the Office of the Attorney General.
