Reports have emerged that some junior officers in the Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KeRRA) are among those targeted for action after using proceeds of corruption to sponsor politicians allied to Azimio La Umoja coalition in the last general election.

Sources reliably informed us that most of those feeling threatened are in a hurry to resign while others have promised to stay put and wait for whatever action is likely to be taken against them.

Some junior officers suspected to have misused taxpayers’ money to finance political activities include KeRRA Nyanza regional boss Eng. Kenneth Ochieng and his Western chapter counterpart.

A plot is reportedly in place to link them to corruption ahead of their sacking, something being planned against their bosses at the headquarters.

Whereas the junior officers in regional offices funded some Azimio allied governors and MPs, top bosses are said to have poured millions of shillings towards Raila Odinga’s campaign in a bid to frustrate President William Ruto and his allies during the last general elections.

Panic has gripped has now gripped the pinpointed officers based at Nyanza and Western officers after they learnt that a Kenya Kwanza top decision-making organ demanded that the affected officers be shown the door.

The tension is span across the country.

Speaking under the request of anonymity, a security official privy to the planned raid revealed it’s only a matter of time before investigative agencies pounce on the earmarked officers.

Allegations that they acquired multi-billion-shilling estates from kickbacks and bribes from contractors are part of what will be used to implicate them in corruption and eventually hound them out of office, amidst arrest and possible prosecution.

Nyanza KeRRA regional boss, is said to be notorious for corruption and is at loggerheads with a section of irate contractors who believed that they were unfairly locked out of tenders in favour of those who part with huge amounts of cash in form of kickbacks.

The disgruntled contractors lamented how some politicians were irregularly awarded tenders as protection fees for the officers, who were literally on a looting spree.

In Bungoma, rogue officers at Kenya Rural Roads Authority freaked out over reports that they were being trailed by the anti-graft agencies.

As things stand, the regional top officials linked to corruption are living under the fear they could be picked up at any time for interrogation.

Procurement officer Evans Barasa and his accountant Nelson Sino are said to be among those wreaking havoc at the government agency.

According to sources, they are afraid that their respective bank accounts believed to be hiding millions of dirty money and property are likely to be seized in the looming operation.

The troubled officers now blame some disgruntled contractors as the orchestrators of their current woes.

Recently, a section of contractors accused Bungoma procurement officer Barasa of what they term as abuse of office and impunity.

Locals claim that 22pc is meant for constituency roads, and 10pc of the tenders are supposed to be awarded to youth and people living with disability.

Documents show that the procurement officer has gone against the procurement rules to have his companies awarded road tenders meant for special groups.

The companies in question are AfricaReageholdings Ltd, Kadenge Contractors, Leta Kenya and Timaka Ltd, whose directors are close allies of Barasa, Kerra procurement officer.

Barasa is also accused of demanding hefty kickbacks from bidders so that their companies would be favoured during the tendering process.

Bungoma residents now want the KeRRA procurement probed and rogue officials condoning corruption transferred.

“The Kerra accountant, one Sino, always colludes with Barasa in awarding themselves the tenders without advertising the same.

The Kerra upper western region is notorious for tribalism and nepotism, as all its top management

are under one ethnic community,” one angry resident lamented.

Adding: “Jared Omondi, the regional director, is a Luo, one K’otieno his deputy, also Luo. Sino the accountant and his deputy are also Luos. ICT correspondent Mr Jasper is also a Luo.”

The local community employees are complaining about harsh treatment and nepotism at work.
