Kenyans who desperately need aid are forced through a tunnel of corruption by selfish servicemen and women.
Based on a recent Transparency International poll, the East African Bribery Index Report, 92 percent of Kenyan citizens rated their police as the most corrupt.
Kenyans are blackmailed into paying cops for access to different services such as speeding up service, expediting the proper legal procedure, and avoiding conflicts with the cops.
While appearing before the National Assembly Departmental Committee on Administration and Internal Affairs and the Senate Standing Committee on National Security, Defense, and Foreign Relations, Inspector General Japheth Koome said to curb rampant corruption, there will be a reward for members of the public who expose corrupt officers.
Here is a series of complaints from members of the public about Kasarani Police Station. The testimonies against Kasarani police station are shocking.
The most interesting one is that they have a Mpesa shop within the station that police use to withdraw bribes.
“Had an accident at kastemil area..;before I called my insurance to organise road assistance walikuwa washanitow na msee wao.Charged me 10k(distance of less than 5km)Msee wa towing akaniambia 4k ni yake rest ni ya station.”
“Worst police stations in Nairobi for motorists 1.Kasarani 2.Pangani 3.Kayole 4.Parklands 5.Wilson Airport police 5.Kabete 6.Industrial Area 7.Kahaw west 8.Kilimani 9.Ongata Rongai”
Hi Nyakundi, It is true at the back there is a police canteen. It has a shop that also has mpesa and is attended to by a lady. Kasarani police have no abstract forms, you buy them from this shop. For me after being accosted, handcuffed, harassed, and chased from town by three armed policemen on 24/10/22 at 5 am when I had just arrived from home, I went to Kasarani police station to report where there was this slender lady at the desk who told me they cannot record my statement and they can only record “lost item” since the police after forcibly taking my ID remained with it.
Hi Cyprian, I went to Kasarani police station to report lost phone. The police on the counter told me to report and be given an abstract would cost Ksh. 400. Besides for him to record OB I must buy him kamnyeso. So he directed me to their canteen where l was supposed to withdraw cash and also pay for the kinywanji. So what l did l went and printed abstract form and brought to him. I was asked where the money was and I told him to give me an account number to pay via bank or paybill/till. In summary, the place is a den of corruption.
