Hi Nyakundi
I have followed a lot of your stories. I have a concern I would like to raise with you.
Schools have been increasing fees in a cunning manner by introducing something we call remedial studies. Now, this is more like tuition that is charged to the parent whether they want it or not. These classes are one-hour classes after normal school time is over for the upper classes. The structure of the remedial is what should catch your eye.
1. The remedial fee is payable only to the headteacher or class teachers in Mpesa to avoid detection by ministry officials.
2. No receipts are offered.
3. To ensure all pupils attend these classes, instead of covering areas where the pupils are struggling, they cover the school syllabus. This ensures the pupil will miss out since normal school work is being done at this time making it a non-optional payment. Note that this has already been charged for in the normal school fees.
4. Pupils who have not paid for the remedial will go home earlier with lower classes, missing the syllabus which they have already paid for.
5. Remedial requires to be cleared before normal school fees since it’s harder to enforce.
The above is also true of a school you have been highlighting recently.
Regards,
*******
