Unhappy students at the Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA) have exposed a dangerous tandem of two men that are causing unwarranted terror and havoc with the blessings and protection of the clergymen in charge of governing the institution.
For the better part of Monday 17 October, a disturbing video clip went viral showing an administrative staff member at the university unleashing violence upon a helpless scholar for unknown reasons.
Sources privy to the matter have since reliably informed this blog of the events that led to the nasty altercation, as well as unmasked the identities of the aggressors – Marcellus Otieno – and his accomplice – Festus Musau – who works in the security department.
The duo is suspected to be running an extortion ring that targets both university staff and students, offering plum positions and entry slots to the highest bidder.
Those that fail to comply are intimidated into silence, with threats of facing the sack or expulsion from the institution.
“Hi Nyakundi,
Please hide my identity as I am a student of this institution.
There is a duo at CUEA which is untouchable, they ensure that they hound anyone who they do not like out of the institution and hide behind clergy for protection.
I have attached a video showing an assault on a student where the person meting the violence is called Marcellus Otieno – who, ironically, works in student recruitment and the onlooker Festus Musau who is also ironically the head of security standing by without intervening as the assault goes on.
These two individuals are known to engineer misfortune, especially for staff and students who they do not like and who are new, they ensure that their targets are fired or students expelled, worse still parents get the brunt if they do not pay.
In the case of Marcellus Otieno, he is a mastermind of extorting parents he sells faculty slots to parents; if a student is selected for the faculty of arts for example and wanted to be in the Faculty of Science, a parent would have the slot available to them at a fee (Sh20,000 or more).
This needs to be checked, as this man will continue roaming free, which is empowering him to commit such acts with impunity.
Festus Musau uses his position as head of security to hide such incidents, in this case, the video was taken by an onlooker, hence he cannot tamper with it.
Why would he stand by when a student is being assaulted by a staff member?
He seems to be cooperating with the assailant.
This is a clear and blatant assault on a student and needs to be exposed, who knows what else is going on at this institution which is not captured on video?” the source writes.
Below is the assault video circulating across various social media platforms.
