Employees contracted by leading baking factory “DPL Festive Limited” have expressed fears that the company plans to bar its personnel from participating in Tuesday’s general elections.
Writing to this blog on Monday, August 8, a worker who sought anonymity reported that senior members of the management have been sending subtle hints meant to imply that all employees are expected to avail themselves to work tomorrow.
“Good afternoon, Nyakundi.
As you may know, elections are one of the rights of a Kenyan Citizen but it has come to an extent where Festive company are trying to bar their employees from participating in the process by saying that they must attend work as usual kindly assist cover my identity,” the source writes.
This comes just hours after the Federation of Kenya Employers (FKE) urged employers to release their employees on Tuesday, August 9 general election.
In a letter to employers, FKE Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Jacqueline Mugo said every Kenyan citizen has a right to vote.
“Every adult Kenyan citizen has the right and obligation to choose the next team of political leaders to drive Kenya’s development,” Mugo said in a letter dated August 7.

Some 22,120,458 Kenyans are expected to vote tomorrow in 46,232 polling stations countrywide.
They will elect individuals in six positions that include President, Governors, Senators, Members of Parliament, Woman Representative, and Members of the County Assembly.
