Concerned members of the public have sent out an alert to motorists who frequent Peponi Road in Nairobi to be wary of a newly established crime syndicate that is preying on unsuspecting victims along the quiet route.
On Tuesday, 7 June, an angry mob captured two robbers who were unmasked when performing one of their usual acts where one of them reportedly pretends to lie down injured to lure a ‘good samaritan’ before they quickly pounce on the target.
Despite the Inspector General of Police Hilary Mutyambai forming a special unit to deal with roadside muggings and robbery with violence incidents in Nairobi, residents still cannot walk and move with ease within the city centre and its outskirts.
As seen in the case above, the muggers continue to plot new crafty methods to steal from Kenyans.
The attackers are usually well organised and focused, which means that authorities should increase the number of police on patrols on these streets to enhance security.
Unfortunately, this has not been the case.
They mostly target valuables they can see, from jewellery to phones and carry-ons.
Once done with their mission, they scatter in different directions, leaving their victims stranded.
