A former staffer who was recently unfairly sacked from MOGO Finance Limited has come forward to air out deep frustrations suffered at the hands of the company’s current unscrupulous management, which is hungry for profits and oblivious to Kenyan labour laws.
Through an email anonymously addressed to this blog, the source who is well versed with operations at the firm explains how things took a sharp turn for the worst when top Lithuanian shareholders unfairly pushed out the previous CEO Mr Wilson Nguyo in August 2021 and replaced him with an inexperienced 28-year-old from their home country, Mr Domas Meinikis.
From this moment onwards, cases of rampant mistreatment and racial discrimination of Kenyan staffers sharply increased.
Native employees were quickly branded as thieves, and constant verbal abuses became the order of the day.
Mr Meinikis also reportedly began strictly monitoring their personal lives by unlawfully tracking their mobile phones and spying on their bank statements in a desperate bid to justify purported milking of company funds.
He achieved this with the help of corrupt law enforcement officers from the Criminal Investigation Department.
Those found with any extra income streaming into their accounts were labelled as suspects of handling looted proceeds and consequently shown the door.
This led to a mass exodus of employees who were forcefully bundled out on baseless, trumped up accusations.
Some of those affected included IT Manager Sammy Chetambe, Head of Legal Charles Kanyari, Sales Manager Munderu Maina and various junior staff.
They make most of the dismissals in contravention to stipulated guidelines as per Kenyan Labour Laws.
As things stand, the entire top management has been replaced by unqualified Lithuanian foreigners suspected to be in the country illegally through the help of corrupt immigration officials who are compromised to allow their entry with forged visas and work permits.
Ethical questions are also raised over the firm’s exploitative business plan, which involves charging exorbitant amounts with hidden rates that clients often cannot notice.
Their motive is to recover all their motor vehicles and motorbikes and resell them for more profits.
Former CEO Mr Wilson Nguyo, who was irregularly kicked out, had raised their hopes when he tried to expose the company in court, but was quickly silenced with a hefty amount of money.
He left them stranded in their pursuit of justice.
“Hi Nyakundi,
My name is Teresa Githuku.
I used to work for Mogo Kenya Limited as an Administration Manager.
Their offices used to be in Top Plaza Ground floor Ngong road.
Our CEO used to be Wilson Nguyo, who was pushed out in August 2021.
My work was purely administration and to make sure we move the offices from Top Plaza to Pine Tree Ngong Road.
By the time I was reporting, they had done all the tendering and selected the contractor.
Managed to do all that and to open several branches for Eldoret, Thika, Kiambu and Kitengela and Meru.
Warehouses in Nakuru, Thika Road, Malindi and Kisumu.
That was even before one year elapsed.
But things changed when the CEO was pushed out.
The company is owned by shareholders from Lithuania.
They brought another CEO Domas Meinikis from their country who was so young aged 28 years.
He abuses staff with all vulgar language whenever someone goes wrong.
They started saying that Kenyans we are all thieves.
Whereas this is not true.
We had dedicated to work for the company.
They could track our phone calls, SMS, WhatsApp, with the help of a CID Branton Mutea who illegally tracked even bank statements for staff.
So even if you had another side hustle where you are receiving money, they say it’s their money you are stealing.
They have been eliminating people, started with IT manager Sammy Chetambe who had done a transfer of money to buy land.
Myself, I have quite several side hustle I do.
Then there was me.
Charles Kanyari, Head of Legal, Munderu Maina, Repossessed Boda sales manager.
They have started even to sack even junior staff.
Point remains they do not follow due diligence.
They threaten staff, you either resign or they sack you.
They have brought all top management from their country illegally.
People who are not even learned.
All they do is to abuse staff and intimidate Kenyans.
They use their money to bribe the immigration department so they can get visas and work permits.
Domas – CEO
Karolis Jasinevicius – Head of Operation.
Martins – Head of Boda.
Mirela – Head of repossessed boda.
Edvarts – DC call centre.
HR and security are the only departments that have Kenyans.
They operate business illegally since they charge people top hidden rates of interest that you will not notice.
Their motive is to recover all their motor vehicles and boda and resell them.
Please expose their ill dealings.
Keep my identity anonymous.
They might still be tracking my phone upto now.
People who were sacked illegally want justice.
Former CEO was paid Sh11m when he wanted to expose them.
But us we have no money to sue them.
Please assist us get justice,” the source writes.
