Neighbours of Coastal Regional Commissioner John Elungata have raised a strong outcry against the public servant whom they accuse of selfishly ministering to personal interests and turning a blind eye to troubles facing the community.
The unhappy locals from Lukiyani Constituency in Kakamega County claim that although there exists a common understanding that Mr Elungata is not directly answerable to them, he still holds a prominent position that grants him great influence within the corridors of power.
As such, they expect him to at least take notice of some of their immediate struggles and like every other potential future leader in the region, pull his strings to ensure that their voices are amplified on the national table.
After all, there is nothing wrong with bringing positive development to your area from whichever capacity one may hold.
But unfortunately, this has hardly been the case.
For instance, a resident that discreetly spoke to cnyakundi.com on Wednesday, May 11 revealed how Mr Elungata took his self-centeredness to a whole new level when he recently lobbied Kenya Power officials to directly connect him to power through a sole-fuse transformer erected inside his home compound in Nasianda Village, Kongoni sub-location.
As he enjoys the transformer alone, all his neighbours and the surrounding community are still wallowing in pitch darkness.
In fact, sources on the ground say that a majority of residents did not receive the news very well since many have unsuccessfully been trying to apply for the same electricity but Kenya Power never delivers.
“Good morning Nyakundi.
I am from Kakamega County, Likuyani constituency, Kongoni sub-location.
I am the immediate neighbour of Coast Regional Commissioner Mr John Elungata.
Jamaa aliwekewa transformer by Kenya Power right in his home in Nasianda Village.
He was connected to a sole fuse in the transformer and he is the only one using the transformer.
Since January, we have applied for electricity, but since we are children of a lesser god, nothing has been done.
Expose this useless Kenya Power and the rogue system,” the source writes.
