Residents of Nyalenda Ward in Kisumu Town East Constituency are up in arms over the menacing state of two major schools severely ravaged by floods.
The two learning institutions – Kassagam and St Mark Primary – neighbour each other and are only separated by a wall which area Member of Parliament (MP) Shakeel Shabbir Ahmed falsely claims to have built with over Sh10 million.
But as expected, this half-baked remedy has hardly been helpful.
As a gallery of photos in our possession shows, whenever the heavens open up, showers of blessings quickly turn into a nightmare for both teachers and pupils.
This week the administration was forced to send kids home until the dangerous water levels go down.
Even worse, as affected parties wallow in anguish, Mr Shabbir Ahmed has been busy traversing the constituency as he seeks a fourth elective term.
“Hi Nyakundi,
This is Kassagam and St Mark Primary.
The two schools are only separated by a fence.
Whenever it rains, the situation is like this.
Pupils have to be sent home until the water goes down yet these are schools in the City.
This is in Nyalenda A Ward, Kisumu County.
The area MP Shakeel Shabbir is seeking a 4th term and this is the state of education in the schools.
Situations at the two schools this morning.
The MP built a wall allegedly with Sh10M to try to prevent water from coming into the schools,”the source writes.
