CAPTION: Twitter user Eric Mahasi

An infuriated social media user from a seemingly well-off background has sparked a wild debate online following a series of controversial posts targeting his family.

In a Twitter thread published on Monday, May 2, a young man identified as Eric Mahasi launched strong attacks directed at his own mother whom he claimed to have fallen out of love with.

Not only did he express disaffection for the woman who birthed him but also showed discontent with her style of parenting which he blames for their strained relationship that is now ‘beyond repair’.

According to the entry-level data analyst studying at the United States International University-Africa (USIU), he has grown tired of playing the role of the bigger person and putting up with supposed constant oppression and now plans to move out of their home as soon as he lands a well-paying job.

From a brief glance, it looked like the gentleman was innocently airing out his frustrations.

But as netizens were quick to note, his long list of concerns brought out a rather excessive sense of entitlement.

For instance, he complained of being denied access to the car whenever he wants to attend classes.

He also raised an issue with her unwillingness to offer him a sufficient stipend to cater for his daily needs.

“This is probably not going to shock a lot of you coming from me but it’s something you don’t hear a lot.

I can’t say I love my mum.

Heck, I can’t say I even like her.

Try as I might this relationship is a lost cause na me nimechoka always being the bigger person.

C’mon manze why do you have to make my life so difficult?

Kwani you didn’t want to have me ama?

Naksia nakusumbua nikiomba pesa.

You don’t wanna provide for your offspring without some kind of argument?

Nakuomba gari ndio nisikuwe nafika home 10PM saa hizo niko na daro ya kuamkia 6AM the next day unakataa.

Tena without reason.

As in?

Shouldn’t you be making my life easier nisipitie the same struggles as you?

Anyway, ni sawa tu.

Me I’ve done my part na ni kama umekalia maskio.

As soon as I get my own money you ain’t never hearing from me again coz clearly, you don’t want to help me with anything.

Fuck all this shit btw.

I wish it wasn’t so but somehow this is my life.

Just gotta find a way to live through it for a few more months hopefully then I’m out,” he writes.

Within a few hours, his thread quickly garnered traction as tweeps from all walks of life joined the discourse with varied but certainly interesting reactions.

From the replies, many struggled to discern whether his views were shared as some sort of satire or if he was indeed complaining about his purportedly ‘toxic’ mother from such a high level of privilege.

Check out what some of them had to say below.
