A day after academic staff and casual workers at Pioneer Group of Schools owned by billionaire Peter Munga spoke out against prolonged delays in the disbursement of their salaries, additional sources have come out to confirm deep rooted troubles at the learning institution.
In the latest submission forwarded to us, the disgruntled and demoralized employees also shed the light on a myriad of concerns which unless addresses, are bound to be a great impendment to service delivery.
For instance, the teachers have raised an issue with what they term as an unscrupulous employment process which they say is specifically designed to oppress them.
This author was shocked to be informed that unlike in other properly run institutions, jobholders at the Pioneer Group of Schools are not bound by any official employment contracts.
Instead, the administration uses a rather unorthodox method where Mr Peter Munga himself verbally hires and fires members of his workforce.
This is reportedly done to avoid statutory deductions.
As a result, this has led to an extremely high rate of staff turnover at the institution.
With the school principal under his tight leash, teachers now say they have nowhere else to run in search of justice.
“Hi Nyakundi,
Please hide my identity.
This is about Pioneer Group os Schools.
There is no staff (whether teaching or support) that is given a contract letter by Peter Munga.
He employs verbally and the sacking is also done verbally.
There is a high rate of staff turnover in this school.
He has deliberately done this to avoid being taken to court by any staff who is sacked.
The worst thing is that he never pays taxes.
When I see him being celebrated as a successful businessman I wonder how someone who can’t pay taxes is being worshipped.
The man is heartless.
The principal of the school is a stooge who can’t ask for anything for his teachers.
He sacks at least 7 teachers every term.
Ask him two things: to pay taxes to the government and to give his employees contracts and pay the necessary statutory deductions.
Hata stima halipi imagine.
This country is being milked dry by these idiots calling themselves billionaires,” the source writes.
From the outside, city tycoon Peter Munga’s massive empire looks like an all rosy affair.
But from the murmurs that have been churning out of his long string of enterprises, it is certainly clear that all might not be well.
Just last week, this blog exclusively reported how personnel at Equatorial Nuts Processors – also owned by Peter Munga – had gone for close to three months without a single penny being wired to their accounts.
The workers expressed deep frustrations that as they continue to suffer under the current high cost of living, the former chair of Equity Bank Group has been relentlessly supporting ODM Party leader Raila Odinga’s 2022 presidential bid.
They feared that their dues could be funding a failed campaign project.
