CAPTION: Brian Gitau and the missing newborn baby he rescued in Gatundu

A good samaritan from Kiambu County is crying out for justice after a newborn baby that he recently rescued from a bush mysteriously vanished under the care of medics at the Gatundu General Hospital.

Speaking out on social media, a section of local activists from Gatundu have pointed heavy fingers at the hospital’s management, arguing that they must have played a role in the strange disappearance.

In one Facebook post published on Friday, 25th March 2022, a resident identified as George Kimanga revealed that the baby’s rescuer, a boda boda rider, reached out to him after he failed to locate the little girl named ‘Blessing’ at the health facility.

He complained that ever since she was admitted, the doctors have kept taking him in circles whenever he sought clarity on the child’s whereabouts.

Some of the nurses claim that the baby is under the custody of the ‘Children’s Department’ but nobody is allowed to set eyes on her.

During their last attempt on Saturday, 26th March 2022, they were asked to report back on Monday and meet the Children’s Officer for further clarification on the matter.

“Shocking story is that Brian’s baby girl that he collected and we nursed, has disappeared from Gatundu General Hospital in a clear case of child trafficking.

We sent Brian there accompanied by my friend Damaris Shiro, a child psychologist after Brian complained that he’s been taken in circles.

Even a nurse I had earlier contacted refused to take my calls.

They had been shuffled across the whole hospital.

The baby called Blessed is, gone.

What is scaring I have been told by a friend is sometimes these young babies are stolen for stem cells harvesting, not actually for adoption,” Kimanga writes.

In an earlier post, Mr Kimanga had narrated to his Facebook friends how the graceful boda boda rider had rescued ‘Baby Blessing’ from a bush in Wamitaa village just a fortnight ago.

She was only a few hours old when he found her.

“Recently we have been all over condemning the bodaboda guys. No, not all of them are bad. This rider here from my village Wamitaa, has a golden heart. He should be trending now.

A week or two ago, while on duty this young man Brian Gitau rescued a less than one-hour newborn baby left in a bush.

Took her to the hospital and has been visiting her. Well done Brian, at last, Kinyago has produced a gem,” he wrote.

In the beginning, he could always freely access the baby.

But as time went by, they started limiting the frequent visits he made.

The incident has since been reported to relevant authorities, including the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) who have been urged to launch a swift probe and establish the baby’s whereabouts.
