CAPTION: Postal Corporation of Kenya Post Master General Daniel Kagwe

A female netizen has sparked reactions on social media after badly exposing the depth of incompetence at the Postal Corporation of Kenya (POSTA).

Through a viral Twitter post, the lady identified as Flora narrated how she was left in disbelief when employees from the poorly rated national courier services provider knocked on her doors on Tuesday, 21st February 2022.

Their mission? To deliver a package sent to her a whooping two years ago!

After almost giving up the search for the parcel addressed to her in 2020, POSTA finally asked her to go pick it up through a random phone call about two weeks ago.

But Flora had grown tired of the cat and mouse games perpetrated by corrupt officials at POSTA’s infamous General Post Office along Kenyatta Avenue in Nairobi.

So she instead asked them to bring it to her doorstep if they were indeed serious.

“Somebody sent me a parcel in 2020 and Posta Kenya called me 2 weeks ago to tell me to go collect my package when I had given up and thought it was lost,” she wrote.

In the last part of her tweet published during morning hours, Flora still expressed her lack of surety on whether the government corporation led by Daniel Kagwe would actually honour their pledge to deliver the package before the end of the day.

“GPO is just a crime scene.

Bado ata leo sijaiona,” she added.

Although she remained sceptical, the pledge became a reality when a van with the legendary red, blue and white stripes pulled up down below her apartment.

After excitedly signing off the delivery receipt, she let off a huge sigh of relief; the package was finally home after close to three years thanks to POSTA.

“Receiving my parcel after 2 years 😂 she hilariously tweeted and attached the picture below.

Over the years, the Postal Corporation of Kenya was generally responsible for postal service in Kenya.

Formerly part of the Kenya Post & Telecommunication Corporation (KP&TC), which was split into Posta, the Communication Commission of Kenya (CCK) and Telkom Kenya in 1999.

Corruption & Abuse of Office: Daniel Kagwe’s dark tenure at POSTA

In July 2016, President Uhuru Kenyatta appointed Daniel Kagwe, the brother to Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe, as the Postmaster General and acting Chief Executive Officer at the parastatal.

But in March 2018, the 3-year-extension of Kagwe’s tenure sparked public outrage as he was accused of bleeding the parastatal dry.

At the time, employees at the government agency who preferred revealed that the financial state was so bad that some of them had not received salaries in months.

During his reign, Kagwe has been a constant subject of probes by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) over corruption and abuse of office claims.

For instance, in a letter dated November 21, 2018, DCI boss George Kinoti revealed that he planned to lead a team of detectives to establish how the ailing parastatal awarded tenders in the past three years.

The Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission (EACC) announced that it had received a letter in October 2019, from industry stakeholders, calling for a thorough investigation of Kagwe over a leasing scandal involving a prime property that is located opposite Yaya Centre Nairobi.

According to details from the letter, the contentious 5.03-acre piece of prime property had been leased to a close ally at Ksh 250,000 – which is well below the market value.

The case has never seen its conclusion.

Before joining POSTA, Kagwe worked extensively in the private sector; finance, courier and logistics industry and the wider East African region for over thirty years, holding senior-level capacities at FedEx, Henkel Kenya and Diners Club International.
