Fatigued workers contracted by a local cake making factory within the outskirts of Nairobi city have come out to protest mistreatment from their employer.
Speaking to cnyakundi.com on behalf of his colleagues, an employee at Mill Bakers Limited anonymously exposed poor working conditions at the company owned by business tycoon Millicent Mathenge.
According to our source, personnel at the factory based along Outering Road are pushed to toil for 7 days a week with heavy shifts of up to 13 hours with minimal breaks.
At Mill Bakers Limited, off days or official leave (whether paid or unpaid) is a foreign concept.
Despite being entitled to both by law, employees who dare request a break from their job are immediately reprimanded.
A certain Mr Dominic who serves as the Human Resource (HR) Manager is known to ruthlessly deduct salaries of anyone that asks for a day off.
For the unlucky ones, this often marks the end of their careers at the company by facing the sack.
“Anyone who dares to ask for a day off is fired or his salary deducted.
We’re getting fatigued and no one seems to care,” our source writes.
Below are some of the screenshots captured from our conversation with the distraught employee.
As of the publishing of this story, Mill Bakers Limited was yet to respond to these damning allegations.
All our calls to the company in search of a comment went unanswered.
We shall be keenly following this story and publish subsequent updates as received from our sources on the ground.
