A man believed to be linked to possible terror activities has today been intercepted by officers from the Anti-Terror Police (ATPU) in Nairobi.

Sleuths from the multi-agency security team announced the arrest of the 29-year-old suspect identified as Mohamed Abubakar Hussein on early Tuesday morning.

From a report shared by the National Police Service (NPS) on social media, the man was found in possession of over 90 analogue mobile phones popularly known within the streets as “Kabambe”.

It has also been confirmed that the man is currently being held in custody at the ATPU headquarters at Mazingira House along Kiambu Road where he is expected to assist detectives with further investigations.

The agency has urged the public to stay vigilant and provide information on any suspicious activities within their areas.

The arrest comes a day after the apprehension of another suspect in connection with a terrorist attack in Mandera that left seven people dead and 13 injured.

The victims were a group of passengers that were travelling in a matatu to Mandera Town when it ran over an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) trap.

While in detention, the suspect told police they were six at the time of the attack and that they also used guns in their mission.

The attack followed a terror warning issued by various western governments including France, Germany and USA on an impending terror attack at the weekend.

The foreign governments had warned that attacks would happen over the weekend but Kenya denied knowledge saying they had ramped up operations to tame any such plans.

The Al-Qaeda linked jihadist group have staged a series of attacks on Kenyan soil including the North Eastern and Coastal region because of their proximity to the Somalia border, the operating base for the Shabaab militants.

The terror outfit has mostly targeted security personnel, civil servants and passenger vehicles in the region in recent years as they shift their modus operandi from direct engagements with security agencies to guerillas like tactics which include the planting of IED’s along the routes and attacks on security installations and infrastructure like communication masts.
