The sudden death of a well-received female social media personality has sent shockwaves across the interwebs.
On Monday morning, GoK influencer Jill Kui announced the sad demise of Twitter bigwig Carolyn Maina who enjoyed a heavy audience on the platform due to her strong links in the media buying industry.
According to Ms Kui, her friend succumbed to a short undisclosed illness which she strongly battled until dawn.
“It is with broken hearts that we announce the demise of our loving sister and friend, Cleo Maina, that happened earlier today after a short illness,” she tweeted.
To those who knew her, Carolyn was a respected Marketing Strategy Expert and Communications Specialist who proudly regarded herself as a “Brand Development Sensei”.
On her LinkedIn job profile, she describes herself as a creative, innovative, and insightful Integrated Marketing, Communications and PR professional with 13 years of experience in brand and public relations strategic initiatives.
Shortly after her death was announced, netizens flocked to her formerly active Twitter page as they struggled to come to terms with the unsettling news.
Special attention was particularly drawn to a few of her last posts which many felt to be peculiarly cryptic.
In one tweet published on 29th December 2021, about five days before she passed on, Carolyn shared a strange quote with her followers in which she seemingly prophesied her own death.
“Part of the journey is the end…” she wrote.
In two other different posts, Carolyn seemed to express special affection to one of her male followers, a man popularly known within the streets as “Brian Maktejah”.
She constantly voiced her frustrations over the diffuculty in getting hold of the Creative Designer and Automotive enthusiast.
“Sweet Baby Jesus! What does a girlie need to do I need to get Maktejah’s attention?” she asked in one post published on 28th December 2021.
In a different tweet from six days ago, she complained of the same gentleman again.
“I am here begging you to marry me? To let me make you happy but such is life,” she wrote, attaching a GIF file of a crying black girl.
But moments later, Maktejah played down the speculations and insisted that the two were solely engaged at a business level.
He further explained that they were in communication over the last few weeks due to some design work she wanted to be done.
“Me and Cleo Maina talked, she needed some design done…nothing else. She was to reach out later after sharing a link to my previous work and rates,” he tweeted.
As of the publishing of this post, the family of Carolyn Maina was yet to issue any further statements regarding the unfortunate incident.
