CAPTION: Court of Appeal Judge Justice Saidi Chitembwe
As newly appointed Nairobi governor Anne Kananu took her oath at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) on Tuesday, 16 November 2021, her ousted predecessor Mike Mbuvi Sonko was dropping bombshells of evidence exposing stinking corruption in Kenya’s judiciary.
In a series of videos posted on his social media pages, Sonko unearthed massive fraudulent dealings within the corridors of justice with a specific focus on a group of individuals whom the fiery politician claims were strongly involved in the plotting of his political demise through successful impeachment.
The former Senator fingered the not so honourable Justice Said Chitembwe and his allies within the Court of Appeal chambers for facilitating the hurried swearing-in of Governor Kananu.
He revealed that with blessings from State House through Deputy Comptroller George Kariuki, his former legal advisor Cecil Miller Jr conspired with the judge’s brother Amana Saidi Jirani and County Majority Leader Abdi Guyo to influence the judgement that upheld his removal from office.

CAPTION: Lawyer Cecil Miller
Cecil Miller Jr is the son of former Chief Justice Cecil G. Miller Senior and was for a long time one of Sonko’s most trusted confidants in the murky world of politics.
Sonko leaked phone call conversations as well as recordings of physical meetings between some of the mentioned parties where an array of illegalities were openly discussed.
In one of the clips, Justice Chitembwe’s brother Amana Saidi Jirani confidently confesses to being the bona fide proxy to the judge and boasts of how he delivers wads of cash to him.
In a different video, Justice Chitembwe admits to fraudulent land dealings as well as his sinister role in Sonko’s impeachment proceedings where he was a Presiding Judge.
He confessed that with the help of his two colleagues in the Court of Appeal, he successfully denied Sonko justice during the case since, in reality, there was a lack of Public Participation at the Senate and a lack of quorum at the Nairobi City County Assembly to grant the impeachment the legitimacy it required.
The meeting was recorded at his residence in House No. 31, Mountain View Estate, Waiyaki Way on an undisclosed date.
“In as much as I accepted the Supreme Court’s decision allowing the swearing-in slated for today, this is the other side of the story,” he wrote on Facebook.
“If I, as Mike Mbuvi Sonko, a validly elected and substantively serving Governor of Nairobi can be denied justice, how about the ordinary Kenyan?” he added.
It is quite clear that the troubled former governor has vowed not to go down alone.
He is dragging the whole house with him.
Interestingly, hours since Sonko leaked this latest bombshell, none of the ever outspoken city lawyers and senior counsels have spoken a word on the matter.
Only the current Law Society of Kenya President Nelson Havi dared to issue a statement.
Havi now directed the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) to initiate the immediate removal of Justice Said Chitembwe.
Through his Twitter page, Havi opined that the former Nairobi County Boss is determined to go down with the JSC if they do not initiate the removal of the judge in question.
“I have examined the exposé by Mike Sonko. The Judiciary took him out of office through subterfuge and he is determined to go down with it if JSC does not act. JSC must initiate the process of removal of the Judge on its own, without any further delay. It is so ordered,” he wrote.
If anyone cared for the law and ignored Sonko’s theatrics for a moment, these revelations are enough to initiate proceedings against Justice Chitembwe and the parties mentioned alongside him.
The videos are clear evidence of corruption and ignoring such grave accusations by the former governor would in introspect spell doom for an already tainted judiciary and the Kenyan law heading forward.
We urge relevant authorities to swiftly move in and rescue the judiciary from the shackles of corruption and grant ordinary Kenyans a chance at justice.
