The poor in Kenya are treated less than animals.

In Teita Sisal estate in Mwatate, Taita Taveta County, a cover up took place.

Cnyakundi.com received information that a woman working for the company fell off as she was climbing the company’s truck breaking seven ribs.

She died minutes later.

However, the cause of death was registered as a coronavirus death.

“She died after falling off the company’s truck, broke some ribs. Any worker heard spreading the truth of the actual cause of death is fired,” a source told cnyakundi.com

The source added that the farm owner, a family of Greek descent, theKryiaz, hurriedly transported to Nyanza for burial.

“Has the owner of the farm, a Greek, denied this woman her rights?,” the source wondered

History of human rights abuses

Located in Mwatate Town, Teita Sisal Estate is the largest in the world. But a history of land grabbing and human rights abuses are rife.

In 2016, a lobby group petitioned parliament over Teita’s rights abuses.

Teita Sisal Estate owned by Kryiaz family of Greek origin.

In Taita and Taveta Districts, conflicts between poor peasants struggling for more land and squatters demanding access to and land rights is part and parcel of daily life.

Much of the County is owned by the Kenyatta family.

Because of the powerful families controlling the land on behalf of the Kenyatta family, they get away with overworking workers in slavelike conditions.

If you ask around, there are shocking revelations of the conditions of the workers of Taita Sisal Estate and the gross violations of human rights that are akin to slavery.

In 2015, residents claimed the sisal plantation has extended its boundaries and encroached into community land at Singila and Majengo in Mwatate.

Usually, the estate owners ignore parliamentary directives.

In this latest death, justice must be done to the family.
