Besieged Nairobi County Assembly Minority Whip Peter Imatwok has begun de-whipping ODM Party MCAs who are plotting his ouster.
Thirty-eight out of the 56 opposition MCAs have already signed a petition to fire him as their Whip over allegations of graft and high handedness.
However, in a desperate move to cling to his seat, Imatwok has written letters to County Assembly Speaker Benard Mutura firing his colleagues from committees of the House.
So far, three vocal ODM County legislators have been kicked out of various committees according to letters signed by Imatwok who is the Makongeni MCA.
But immediately after sending the letters, Imatwok disappeared as his party ODM seeks to overturn his move.
“He has not been seen since Thursday evening and his phones are off,” one of the ODM members said describing him as a frustrated man who is fighting for his survival.
The decision to fire him, according to several MCAs is final and the ODM MCAs are set to meet next week to pass a vote of no confidence on him.
“Once we pass the resolution, we shall send the same to the speaker who will receive it and communicate to the whole house,” he added.
The fallout comes just few days after Imatwok wrote to EACC asking the commission to investigate payments made to various law firms by the Nairobi County Government.
It emerged that his letter was as a result of his frustration after the County executive refused to pay a top city lawyer over Sh100 million that he was pushing for. He vowed to scandalize the County should his man not get paid.
Man of scandals
In 2019, the MCA was charged in court for obtaining money under false pretense.
According to court documents, Imwatok is said to have obtained approximately Sh2.19 million from Fresky Bett in 2017 between February 1 and October 31.
The case that was before Magistrate Kennedy Cheruiyot detailed the information that the victim was looking into buying a piece of land before being defrauded by the MCA.
Imwatok has however since been freed on Sh300, 000 cash bail.
