After our earlier article on Racism that has been institutionalized at the UN, it all seems the issue may be addressed if it will…We just hope so.
Slavery & Racism in Kenya at the United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON)
But according to many UN staffers that have spoken to us, those mentioned should first step aside and clear their names if indeed the fight against the institutional racism at the United Nations is real.
The staff are asking if they can speak out given the circumstances. More staffers are calling on the Government, African Leaders to intervene because the leadership has been concealing these things and have failed to do anything for the past 6 years and counting.
Here is an email that was sent by Catherine Pollard who happens to be the Chair of the Task Force on Addressing Racism and Promoting Dignity for All in the UN
Dear Colleagues,
I am pleased to share with you the first newsletter from the Task Force. It contains updates on activities undertaken so far, upcoming events and how you can get involved in creating an anti-racist workplace. The Task Force has also set up a feedback form where you can share suggestions, questions, and concerns. This newsletter will also be available on the United Against Racism page on iSeek where you can also find additional resources.
I encourage each and every one of you to participate in the events and dialogues that are being organized, including those by the Office of the Ombudsman and Mediation Services.
It is a time in our shared history to pause, reflect and discuss openly and without judgement how racism has been institutionalized in our Organization. Let’s not be afraid to acknowledge this ugly truth, and let’s work together to understand it, and see how we can address it in all that we do.
With kind regards,
Catherine Pollard
Chair of the Task Force on Addressing Racism and Promoting Dignity for All in the UN
