A section of the matatu owners also broke into an anti-Nakuru Governor song saying “Lee must go”.
A footage shared online showed protesters also showed them chanting and vowing to block any attempts to kick them from the business-rich CBD.
Nakuru protests come a week after the Nairobi Metropolitan Services also kicked out traders from the Nairobi Lunar Park to create space for the construction of a matatu terminus and the expressway.
NMS boss General Mohammad Badi said matatus will be barred from accessing Nairobi’s CBD from November in a bid to decongest the city.
Badi said that NMS is working with the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) to have bus stations in Ngara and Parklands for matatus plying the Thika Road route.
Matatus coming from Machakos and Lang’ata will have their stage at the Railway Golf Club where the Kenya National Highways Authority (KenHA) plans to build the expressway.
