This afternoon, Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko and Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS) director Mohamed Badi have reconciled, promising to work together for development of Nairobi.
The two spoke after a function at KICC officiated by Uhuru who was handing over title deeds to Nairobi residents.
Sonko blamed unnamed politicians for misleading him, sowing bad blood between him and Badi.
“Maneno yote mabaya nimeongea kwa ndugu yangi Badi namwambia pole . Wanasiasa waliingilia katikati, siasa mbaya,” Sonko said.
Badi said he had put behind the differences that had transpired between him and the governor and assured Sonko of a good working relationship.
“There is no hate between us and as you have heard our interest is to deliver services to the people of Nairobi and bring development,” Badi said.
‘Questioned the deed of transfer’
In April 2020, Sonko had refused to sign into law the Nairobi City County Supplementary Appropriation Bill 2020, thereby denying NMS crucial money for undertaking its work.
The governor had also at this time questioned the ‘deed of transfer’ which was him lose a chunk of Nairobi’s control to the National Government led NMS.
“ The proposed allocations are contrary to the deed of Transfer, which while providing for Ancillary Services does not contemplate the whole, outright transfer of the listed function,” Sonko that time said.
Matching ties
Sonko and Badi in their newly found relationship say they will launch the newly revamped Michuki Park on Friday.
