The Milimani Law Courts has been temporarily closed after a section of the staff experienced symptoms similar to those of covid-19.
Chief Justice David Maraga through a statement on wednesday said one member of staff has tested positive for the novel coronavirus.
“That staff had physical contact with several others before testing positive,” Maraga said.
He directed that the court to remain closed for 14 days with effect from July 30, 2020. He also stated that the leadership of the judiciary in consultation with the Health Ministry has suspended physical court operations to enable affected staffers to self-quarantine.
They staffers will subsequently be subjected to COVID-19 testing before they are allowed to resume physical operations at the busy Milimani courts.
The move is right the right one healthwise but a blow to the Judiciary that has been struggling to deal with a backlog of cases with a slim budget.
Elsewhere the defence hearing of formers Sports CS Hassan Wario has also been postponed due to August 17 due tocovid-19.
The court arrived at the decision after it was told that prosecutors in the case needed to undergo COVID-19 tests after the first case was reported within the premises. Wario and other officers were found to have a case to answer following their involvement in the Rio Scandal.
