Langata Hospital on Friday clarified that the facility does not conducted any coronavirus related tests.

The management said through a statement that the hospital reiterated that all suspected cases were referred to Kenya Medical Research Institute (Kemri) where  Covid-19 tests are carried out.

They have also clarified that the agreement to refer covid-19 patients/ suspects to Kemri should not misundertood that there is a formal partnership between the two health facilities.

“….we reached out to Kemri on the possibility of referring our patients for testing at its facility. We received an affirmative response from relevant officers at Kemri and it is on that basis that we put in place safety procedures to enable our patients to be provided with Covid-19 testing services at Kemri,” said the management.

In the agreement between Langata and Kemri, patients were charged Sh5,500 icluding the testing charges of Sh4,000 by Kemri and Sh1,500 for facilitation and transport by Langata Hospital.

“All tests were done by Kemri, all results were valid and all corresponding reports were certified by Kemri” the statement reads.

Langata Hospital only collects results from Kemri with two days after testing and delivers them to patients.

But the confusion that the hospital had entered into a partnership with Kemri was due to a marketing poster by the hospital’s team and has since been withdrawn following public outcry.

“…… given the frequent nature of our referrals to Kemri, our marketing team erroneously published a poster which may be construed to mean that there was a formal partnership between Langata Hospital and KEMRI. A withdrawal of the poster was ordered as soon as it was brought to the attention of the management.” the statement clarrifies.

Langata Hospital also refuted claims that they had shut down following a government raid on wednesday. They claim that only their laboratory has been closed.

Criminal charges have also been brought against a section of their staff over inaccurate tests.

The staff includes two senior officials and two lab technicians who have been charged with stocking invalidated and expired laboratory reagents.
