James Orengo, Siaya Senator and Senior Counsel

SIAYA Senator James Orengo whose famous words “Governments eat their own people. This government will punish you more than it will punish me”, paints the picture of what is happening tonight in Kenya has spoken against police Brutality during the curfew.

Kenyans have shared tens of videos showing police assaulting unarmed civilians due to he curfew that began today at 7 pm.

The senior counsel condemned the violence meted on civilians stating:

“A state of emergency does not by itself ineluctably limit or suspend the Bill of Rights. There must be legislation. In any case national security must be pursued in compliance with the rule of law & human rights.Police must not enforce curfew with might but love & fight Covid-19. The government has put reasonable measures to deal with the pandemic. As patriotic citizens we must all play our part as a civic duty. My friend Mutahi Kagwe is showing great leadership. But we need our people on board to have a formidable army against coronavirus”, Orengo wrote on Twitter

Kenyans have expressed concerns with the way the police are handling the curfew. Most of them wonder why the police who are supposed to implement the curfew to contain the spread of Covid-19 are brutalosinf people who will then need to fill hospitals to treat their injuries, yet the whole point is to have people avoid crowds and stay at home.
