A University of Nairobi (UoN) student had taken to Twitter to reveal the challenges and the half-baked training they receive as medical students.
Kenyans should be shocked by the level of jokes that goes into training of future doctors, who will then be frustrated by the govt while the president and the political class ‘wanakula nyama, tukimeza mate’.
This is shocking. It just confirms why the selection of VC has been hard for the institution of higher learning. It is all about money and not academics.
Can UoN respond to this?

Let me tell you a story, a story about the type of doctors the University of Nairobi is making. We know we are supposed to be able to work under pressure, under life or death circumstances.
However, I believe during our training, we should be given ample time to prepare for and understand what we are learning, because “one day you will be the difference between the patient and the grave, ” or whatever the seniors say, right?
But guess what!! The University of Nairobi and The School of Medicine gives ZERO (SUFURI, NADA) FUCKS about this. Instead, their focus is on “regularizing” the schedule and making sure the next class comes in early so that they can get FUNDS to “run” the school.
They’re doing all this at the expense of a whole class of medical students (300 in number). Wait😅😂, these are your future doctors. How do you not give students time to study? Release the exam timetable that determines their progression to the next class just a day before?
And when the students try to bring it up and ask politely for a extension in order to get ample time to read they come up with threats and say they will “deal with us” ?. We want to be good doctors. But what can you do when your own institution is curtailing your progress?
How do you squeeze 8 months worth of learning in to 3 days of exams? How do you FORCE students to do exams without a 1 week notice as required by the university constitution? You might think you won, but this is a loss for the university and the nation.
The university is trying to silence the students as it gives them a raw deal. This is just a tweet. Not many people may see it but fuck the University of Nairobi and whatever it stands for.
