Joblessness is not a walk in the park.

When one has a job, they find themselves surrounded with friends and family members who must enjoy the ‘fruits’ of their kin having an income.

Most often, and particulalry in a country like Kenya, one has a long line of family members including the extended one to please.

It is not great not to serve the interest of all these people, but one must also be cautious not to disregard any. This can be important in the long run.

Poverty is high in Kenya. Unemployment exacerbates the issue of dependency on one family member who has a job.

The sad part is that, in order to keep up with demands, the one who has a job might get into credit with various financial institutions such as banks, Saccos, and shylocks. The worse thing to happen is when such a person loses their job.

Now they are out in the unforgiving cold, saddled with debts and few requests from relatives that don’t understand. It is not their responsibility to understand.

Friends also flee. They don’t fancy a jobless person anymore.

Remember, Kenya is a poor country. Poverty bites more than a bee sting.

This is a sad situation that many Kenyans found themselves in after losing a job.

The pain and shame; shame that is occasioned by judgment in this man-eat-man society filled with the ignorance of humanity and reeking of Neo-liberalism, sends many to the grave through suicides.

It is not your fault that you have lost your job.

What to do?

Kenyans need to reclaim their humanity.

We need to say ENOUGH!

We are human beings first, we are not a statistic or Huduma Namba or ID card number.

We are humans for christ’s-sake.

Let us rise NOW and demand that our government treats us better.

Demand for jobs, because it is the responsibility of the government to run the economy better, to remove corruption, to serve the PEOPLE, to create jobs.
